Default Just picked up an Evo 30 need some help

Hi I just picked up a Sceadu Evo .30 brand new with 7CHP, digital servos, 401 gyro and all for $300, the guy was in debt and needed to sell, the engine has never seen fuel, and nothing was ever used. My problems are as follows, do I have to go back and recheck to whole entire heli up and down ?

Also the radio is a futaba 7CHP it came with s3151 digital servos, my problem is the original owner purchased the gyro and tail servo individually so although it is a GY401 the tail servo is a futaba s3004 which doesnt make that much sense to me, doesnt the gyro need a better servo then that ? something with a quicker response time ?

The third issue I have noticed so far is that with all the electronics installed and everything setup the heli seems to lean back and not stay steady on its landing gear, there seems to be more weight in the back and that the heli is not balanced properly - keep in mind though that this is with the blades in the blade holder so there is more weight in the back, but my Kinetic 50 (century Hawk) even without the electronics installed to add extra weight to the front doesnt tip back as much. Is this correct ? is it supposed to lean back like this ?

The other questions I had were just on the design of the heli itself, I was wondering why the landing gear gear is setup to make the heli a little top heavy they seem to be closer together then my kinetics landing gear and the Evo seems to sit higher up then the kinetic which seems to make heli more top heavy (higher center of gravity) then the Kinetic. All in all the Evo seems like a better chopper then the Kinetic, and maybe the center of gravity thing only applies to cars I was just curious.

thanks for your help

OK I'll jump in:

1) 3004 is absolutely insufficient for the tail servo, recommend a 9254 or similar high speed tail servo made for 401, would not fly until this is complete. You got a steal so it is ok to spend a few bucks on the servo

2) Is there a battery installed in the front? Regulator? Where is the gyro mounted?

3) Every Evo 30/50 I've seen has been naturally tail heavy, unfold the blades and balance the thing from the flybar before you get too excited with CG. I wouldn't add weight, I personnally fly them with all the electronics mounted up front and if they come out a tad tail heavy, I usually adjust for it with cyclic trim to get a solid hover. Every Evo I've done this to flies PERFECTLY (some better than perfect).

4) If it was a kit, I'd check all screws that go into metal I'd check all bearings, I usually do a full tear down on heli's "other people have built and flown" since 90% of the time there is something that was not done right, or there is a bearing that has rusted that will cause problems with radio noise and/or funny running. Most beginners build the tail all wrong even by the instructions.

5) Recommend pulling the engine, ensure it really hasn't seen ANY fuel at all and make sure it has compression and no crunchyness.

Hope this helps.

thanks for your help, there is a battery installed upfront, no regulator though, and the gyro is on that plate in the back above the boom

The landing gear do sit more forward as well. If you want to stop the lean back, just reverse the bows and the heli will sit more "sure footed". I too do not like to add weight and usually look at performance and trims to determine if I need to adjust the CG. That sounds like one of our Combo kits. The 3004 is for the throttle and a 3151 is for the Gyro. Granted the servo is not perfect as the 9254 is, but Futaba okay'd the servo for use with that gyro in a beginner application. I have done some moderate backwards stuff as well with it. Use it till it wears out or you need better tail holding in backwards flight and then replace with a 9254.

I'd go over the whole heli for certain. You don't want any surprises.

good luck.

Hi Jeff thanks for the help, I was wondering where I could get parts for it, are they expensive ?
