No exhaust fuel line?

I was given a mint condition GMP competitor recently.

It's got an os max 61 heli engine on it. No idea about the age.

I can't find the exhaust port on the muffler to plug in the fuel line (so the tank's pressurized). Of course, the main fuel line hooks up without a problem. I've taken the muffler off and there is definitely nowhere to attach anything on it.

Any suggestions? I was thinking of maybe tapping into the cooling shroud and getting pressure from there...

Hooking a nipple to your fan shroud isn't going to help you. Drill and tap the muffler and put a nipple in there. Here is a manual that might give you some useful information as well. http://www.1017.org/competitor/index.html

Thanx for the reply.

Any idea where the best place to drill and tap on the muffler is? I'm assuming it needs to be close to the engine exhaust port.

I've read through and printed most of the links on that page.

I would put it in the expansion chamber somewhere. You don't want it too close to the exhaust port, somewhere in the middle is good.

Just wanted to post that I put the nipple on the opposite side of the muffler as the exhaust port and muffler output.

8-32 tap with a #29 drill bit.

Engine works MUCH better then it did before. Now I get a consistent idle through all engine temperature ranges.

Kewl, glad to hear that it worked out well for you.

you must have a muffler that went to an engine that has a pump to send fuel.pressuer back to the tank.

I have no idea. It's a pitts style muffler.

The engine has been out of production for almost 30 years. It's an old os max 61 vf-h.

I got the helicopter from my dad who got it from his brother who recently got it from someone else.

No idea how many hands this heli's seen in the past month.
