Default Feather for Surface use

I want to use feather receivers in a series of AntWeight battlebot kits I am developing. [Antweights are small fighting robots which weigh 1 pound or less]. The Feather is ideal for this purpose because of the light weight. Transmitters are never farther away than 10 ft so range is no issue.

I have used the Feather in aircraft and am very pleased with it.

Can I buy feathers with surface crystals? Can I swap crystals in an existing set to convert to surface use? What kind of crystals do I need?

Thanks,

Joseph Osborne

You could use a 72mhz receiver and plug the Hitec single conversion 75mhz crystal in it (part#66875XX) XX=CH#

I would not recommend this for normal applications but it should be OK for what you are doing.

Thanks for the quick reply, Mike.

Can I use a 75 mhz crystal in the 72 mhz Tx also for this short range application? The Tx I wish to use for proof-of-concept is a Focus 3 SS FM.

You might be able to get away with that Part#67175XX

Default RE: Feather for Surface use

Well I tried it and no luck.

I am using a Focus 4 FM Tx and a feather Rx. I tried channel 61, reasoning that it is the lowest frequency in the 75Mhz band & would therefore be closer to 72Mhz. Both had been on Channel 52 and worked fine. The Rx packaging definitely says 'single conversion'. My Focus 3 FM Tx is at your shop being repaired right now so I can't try in that. The bot jumps when I turn off the Focus 4 Tx but otherwise no movement at all. Dead.

Any thoughts?

It looks like you can't do it without retuning.

Is retuning something I can do or does it require factory parts?

It would require the use of an ocsiliscope and the know how to do it. Hitec does not offer this service since the Feather is only FCC type accepted for 72mhz.

Well we AntWeight battlebot folks would really like a radio system that has these features:

75mhz
Lightweight receiver (short range is fine: 20ft max)
Joystick & mixer on Tx for channels 1&2
Three channel is great

We need mixing for tank steering and the bots can't weigh more than 1#.

You could sell it through Robotmarketplace.com.

Does HiTech make anything that fills these requirements?

Thanks,
