Default Over Load Protection on a HS-7245MH

Dear Hitec:

I am considering using the digital Hitec
HS-7245MH as a direct drive steering servo in a big Corsair. Right now I am using an analog HS-225BB andIn some conditions when the plane is stopped the servo may stall. The other issue is that the plastic gears are starting to go. How do you recommend setting the overload protection using the programmer to have maximum torque but at the same time protect the servo from burning out if it stalls.

I understand that the torque is reduced with the programmer's OLP to save the servo if it is stalled. My question is how can I tell what the maximum stall torque is with out burning out the servo? Maybe I need to monitor the current but what is the maximum amount?

I have the HFP-20 programmer.

The OLP setting is a bit of a tricky one. It can sometimes save the servo if the servo stalls or is forced to stall for a moment, but if the servo is stalled for too long, even with the OLP activated, the servo can still burn out.

You can try playing with the OLP but as I said, do keep in mind you can still burn out the servo if you force it into a stalled condition. You may want to rethink your linkage setup using a spring setup that will give some if the tail wheel is forced into a position that may cause the servo to stall.
