Hey Mike,
Exactly what is synthesize? Also, exactly what does it do?Is it a (good-better-best) idea to look for when purchasing a new radio?
Thanks "51ER"

A transmitter that has a synthesizer module (or "deck" ) makes it capable of selecting any one of the 50 available channels on the 72mz band. A synthesized receiver allows you to use IT, as well, on any of the channels.
You can use a synthesized radio with a single-channel receiver just as easily as you could use a single-channel radio with a synthesized receiver (but you have to be careful that the "shift" of both components match... but that's another question).
It's not really a good-better-best issue, it's really just a feature. You can get the top of the line radios from Futaba, Hitec and Multiplex (to name just a few) with OR without the synthesized option. You can also get a bottom of the line transmitter (Tracker) that comes as a synthesized only radio.
