Mike, can you explain why only the top-end (aka "expensive") Hitec servos use coreless motors when Futaba seems to use them on servos as cheap as their S9001 ($30)?

Since the benefits associated with coreless motors are well known, and obviously coreless motors are not that expensive (given that you can buy a $30 Futaba servo with such a motor), why don't we see more of Hitec's mid-range offerings using them instead of the 3 and 5 pole motors?

Something like an HS425BB with coreless motor and digital amp would be a winner wouldn't it -- especially when you realise that the difference between the 475 and the 5475 is the digital amp and that represents $17.

That means if Hitec made something equivalent to the Futaba S9001 (coreless motor, 54 oz-in, $30 price) with an additional $17 worth of electronics, we'd have a $47 coreless digital servo. Now I think a *lot* of people would want one of those.

I note that Hitec are about to supply the HS6635 which, at $48 and having 83 oz-in of torque also looks to be a damned fine piece of gear (I'll be ordering mine as soon as they hit the shelves) -- but why the 3-pole motor? Why not one of those great-value coreless motors that Futaba seem to be using?

X-Jet- I'll check into that. The coreless motors that we use are the best quality we can get. They are very simililar to the motors used in the high end Futaba, JR and Airtronics servos. I'll see if we can source the lower priced (quality) versions and see how they compare to the other motors we are using. Great.... More work!!! [:@]

About the 6635HD... even though it uses a 3 pole motor it is one of the smoothest servos I have ever used. I can honestly say that it blew my mind the first time I activated them. "Butter" was the first word that came to mind. Let me know what you think after you get some.

Servo City tell me that their supplier (Hitec?) keeps placing them on backorder :-(

Damn -- I need five servos for a new plane within a couple of weeks and I'd *love* to give the 6635s a try.

Well I would buy from Hobby Horse -- but according to their website:

"Your 1st international order must be by certified check or Money Order or wire transfer"

Give that here in NZ there's a $25 fee associated with money orders or wire transfers, it makes their prices way too high.

I also prefer to pay using PayPal which ServoCity accept.

Any other suggestions?

Another reason for not buying from Hobby Horse is that they don't even mention them on their website.

If they do have stock, why do they keep it such a secret??

Are you sure Hitec has them in stock? -- I've trawled a number of Hitec dealer sites but none I found showed the HS6635 as being in stock.

If anyone (outside of Hitec) actually used one of these servos, how did you find it?
