Default Hitec Flash5x - Dual and Exp Rates

I can't get dual rates to program.
I have the exponential set, does this cause a problem with setting the dual rates.
I go to set the rate and it is the same when I move switch #1.
I am using the GLIDACRO setting.
I may also want to set the flaps to help during landings but I have not tried this yet.
I think I would rather have the dual rates than exponential if both are not available.
This is for a Sig Somethin' Extra.

What you want to do is set the D/R to 125% so that when the switch is up and the Expo is active you have 25% more travel than with no expo and 100% rates. Then adjust the EPA to get the travel you want at the low rate. Unfortunately this is the only way to get a higher rate with expo.

Default Hitec Flash5x - Dual and Exp Rates

Mike,

I had about the same question. I had already figured out about setting the dual rate at 125% to get dual rates and expo.

My question is this. If I set the EPA to say, 50%, this is 50% of servo travel. Then when I set the dual rate to 125%, is this 125% of total servo travel or 125% of the 50% I already set in the EPA.

I hope I explained my question properly. Please let me know if you don't understand my question and I will try to rephrase.

Thanks
Frank

Default Hitec Flash5x - Dual and Exp Rates

Mike,

I still can't get the dual rates to work.
If I have the switch in the up position (on) and set it to 125%.
Then move the switch to the down position (off) and try to set the second rate, it changes the first rate also.
I am confused. Is my radio working correctly?
I turned off the expo and tried to do like you said above but got nowhere.

sporty76- You would get 125% of the EPA selected at the high rate and 100% of the EPA on the low rate.

RedWing- You can only set the rate when the switch is up. When it is down it is always 100%. Your options are if you are not using EXPO then you can reduce the travel to what ever you choose with the switch up. If you want EXPO then it is only active with the switch up and you typically will only use it with a higher rate so that is why you would set it to 125%. If you are still confused give us a call @ (858)748-6948

I just don't see a big difference when I set it to 125% when I turn the switch on and off.
So, I assume this is this where I set the end points adjustments.
That is what I will try tonight.

Sorry for the many questions.

I have had this radio for over a year but never used any expo or dual rates.

I will figure it out.

Thanks Mike.

You're right, there is not much difference between the two. Unfortunately, this radio appears to be primarily designed for either dual rates or exponential rates but not both. You can get both by the method described, but using this method, there is very little difference between low rates and high rates.

My opinion is that if you really want to use expo, then forget the dual rates. My personal preference is to use dual rates with no expo, but that's just me. Unfortunately, there is no good way to have both with this radio.

Just my $.02 worth

Thanks Frank,

I guess I will set it up with a lot of expo and soften the controls. I may not get to fly this plane until sping if the weather stay like it is.

Default Hitec Flash5x - Dual and Exp Rates

Sorry to bring up an old topic, but I just ran across this problem myself. Seems quite stupid to me but.

My problem is that I cannot get exponential on high rates, only on low.

From what I read above, this is not possible?

If this is right, it is a serious design problem and should be adressed in later versions of this product (flash 5)
