Default Hitec Optic 6 = Count down to your crash.

I just lost an os surpass 91 II, plane and servos due to the lock up on this radio. I knew about the sub trim issue with ail diff so I avoided using sub trim in the radio.
So I was flying my edge 540 I handed it to a friend to fly it and he told me it needed left aileron trim. As I trim the aileron and he’s flying the radio locks up! I dug my plane out of the grown and took it home.
Once home I started playing with the radio to see if I could make it lock up again. I came up with the following if you start moving your right stick around while full throttle and count down timer going at the same time while doing the aileron trim. The radio will eventually lock up. I just replicated this about 5 times.
So I called hitec to see if there was anything they could do for me. The only thing I was told is send the radio in and well look at it, but there is nothing we can do about your plane.

I am writing this because I don’t want someone else to go through this. I have had several friends buy this radio as I loved it too much. I think they will be getting rid of theirs and going with something else after they witnessed this.

Thanks for your time.

Sorry about your model...

Was your TX software upgraded? Hitec realized some problems with the early release Optic 6's and offered free software revision updates to remedy all known issues.

Activate the advanced menu by holding down the EDIT buttons and powering On the TX, scroll with the down edit button to "VER". The latest software revision is blank, no indicators. Previous versions I have owned were "0", "11".

The "VER" was right after the MSEL screen one push of the down EDIT button got you to the VER screen.

If there is no "VER" screen you have the latest software with all known quirks addressed to date.

I haven't had either of our Optics updated yet, been using them for nearly a year without issue. So I'm providing information that was passed along by Hitec Service on the lack of the VER screen.

I have version 1.1 i called hitec when i had the subtrim -60 lockup, and I was told I did not have to send it back if i didnt want to use subtrim lesser than -59 on channel 3. So I asked if I should be ok with it untill the winter and i was told yes.
My friend just tried my settings, and his locked up also doing the same thing. So there is more to it than the subtrim issue. There should be a recall or a big message all over the place telling users with the optic 6 to send them back for an update. I dont know if the current update fixes the issue since i was told it was only for the subtrim problem.
Is there anyone here that has one that has been updated?
If could you try these settings to see if it locks up on you?
This is a major issue in my opinion, and I dont think that i have found the only combination that makes this lock up. They should at least replacedmy engine and flight pack. i lost a reciever, 4 hs-425s and 1 hs-625. Also lost a almost brand new OS .91 Surpass. I do know i purshase lots of hitec equipment and so do my friends, and if nothing is done for me on this issue. I will never buy another hitec product again.

I just tried your settings on my VER 11 and VER 0 Optic and was unable to duplicate the lock-up

Did you miss any of your programmed parameters in your post above?

In any event send your TX and flight pack to Hitec Service with the all the information you can provide in writing and request a phone call to discuss your problems and loss.

nope those should be the settings i tried it on my friend radio and his locked up aswell. he is using version 1.1 i will try it on my my managers radio tomorrow at work.
with the both d/r switches down these are the settings
i just created a new model with these settings and got it to lockup in both ways. trimming while spinning right stick around or turning it on with left stick all the way up.

subtrim +40 chan 3
ail diff on
exp elevator -15 aileron -15 rudder -40
epa channel 3 109 up
reverse channels 1 to 5
d/r 40 on aileron 40 on elevator 100 on rudder

what i did to lock it up was either.
power up press timer select twice
press timer start once
go full throttle
start spinning right stick around
use aileron trim while doing that.

or
if i turn on the radio with full throttle and quickly press timer select twice and timer start
it locks right up. but this one doesnt do it every time. did it twice in a row the first times. then once every 5 times or so after.

this has been tested on optic 6 radios ver 1.1

not to be smart a** but why would you make those stick movements in the first place and forsure after you learned of the lockup prob?

do you have the fix for the subtrim -60?
i just called a friend to have him try and it locked up on him also.
our radios are plain 1.1 how they came from tower hobbies.

also do you have your throttle stick all the way up when you do the epa to 109 on channel 3?

those movements are just me trying to replicate this. i learned the movements when my plane took a nose dive at full throttle.

No fix or updates, my TX's are exactly as received from Hitec USA, one ver "O" and the latter ver "11" I don't have 1.1 as you note.

I don't believe there was a FIX for the -60 sub-trim issues until the software update came to be

I have double and triple checked the settings and followed your methodology to the letter and no cigar... I'll shoot some video.
