Default Help! with Flash5

Help!, My Flash 5 just went haywire. It says the voltage is 17.7 (the battery voltage is actually 10.4), none of the controls work and it's sending out signals which cause servos to try to go past their endpoints. It wasn't dropped, it just started when I tried to do a radio check.

I don't remember exactly when I bought it but it's about 3 years old.

Is there anything obvious I might look for to fix it?

I have a second Flash 5 I got for a buddy box. It is ch 20 while my primary is 52. I switched tx crystals and found that my second worked on 52 to get my servos back to neutral. It seems to control fine on the ground, but I shouldn't fly with the crystals switched right?

Thanks, Andy

It sounds like the battery was plugged in backwards at some point... You'll need to send it in for repair.

No, don't use the TX with anything other than the origional xtal that came with it as you may cause interference to other radios.

Mike.

Thanks Mike, I'll send it in.

Regarding plugging in the battery backwards at some point, I guess it's possible, but it was working fine the day before and the battery hasn't been out for a while.

The battery plug is designed to prevent putting it in backwards, but if reverse polarity really has the potential to do in the radio it seems like a better design would be to just add a diode to protect it.

We'll check it out.... It may be something else.

The diode is in-line with the charge circuit, not the battery connector.
