Multiplex Smart SX Flexx and Tamiya Pershing
 

I have a Flexx transmitter that I would like to use to control a Tamiya 1/16 Pershing. The Flexx manual states that it works with the DMD unit of Tamiya tanks when in "Tamiya mode". Consistent with this I get the tx to control turret and gun movement, and I can "rev the engine" (which tells me the speed control works). I am not however able to use the stick buttons to fire gun or machine gun, or to get the tank out of "idling mode" (and hence cannot drive it!).

Any suggestions what may be wrong? Is the tx compatible with the Pershing (with DMD units MF-03, T-06) right out of the box, can I/do I need to program the tx, or is it simply not compatible with the tank?
