Micro 05S problem
 

I have been using a micro 05s receiver reliably for about 2 months before today. The day before yesterday I flew for a few hours without any problem, I went to the field today the receiver doesn't respond properly . When I turn the power on to the receiver the servos will move about 15 degrees and thats it. My servos and batteries check out good and I use the transmitter on different planes, so that leaves the receiver. Any ideas?

Sounds like the RX may have failed and or the crystal. Do you have another single conversion crystal you can use to tet the RX?

Any chance the TX is on the wrong channel or wrong pulse modulation?

The receiver had been working with my Tx fine until the other day. This morning I switched the crystal out of my HFS-04MG into the 05S with the same result.

Sounds like you may have a problem with the RX, BUT as I mentioned I would check the TX settings just in case something managed to change. This happens on occasion with the computer TX's something about gremlins.:D

What TX are you using?

I'm assuming the RX crystal you changed was on the appropriate channel for the TX as well.

i got one of those, would do range tests just fine, 0ff throttle, 50% throttle, 100% throttle, with tx down on the ground and over 200 feet away with no glitching, as soon as i got it in the air; failure, starts glitching like mad. crashed plane

built new plane, replaced the esc (It was new and overheated on 50% it's rated continuous current load) as i thought my esc was the only problem i flew again with a new esc and a new plane but the same micro 05s rx. I did even more rigourous range tests, again passed with flying colours. I take the plane 100 away from me in the air and poof! same mysterious glitches. It was the reciever, not the esc. (that doesn't explain the esc overheat but...)

I sent the faulty micro 05s receiver back to hitec and am using another rx in an new plane but with all the exact same other components and in the exact same field with no problems at all.

Hitec has never answered my email concerning this issue, the rx has been sent back over a month ago.


I am very displeased to say the least. I am in the market for a new radio system these days, something nice. You can be certain it won't be a hitec. JR here i come.

Your suggesting an ESC is the problem, the Micro 05S is a Receiver what are you drawing a correlation too? The post above is about the Micro 05S RX.

Youre right, i made a simple mistake in writing the story down. It was a rx (and esc) I edited my post. sorry...

I DID have troubles with a micro 05s though, and it has been gone to service for over a month and hitec has never answered my email.

The Micro O5S RX depicted at the web page link below is the unit you have difficulty with, right?

We've used these RX's since they were prototyped exclusively with electric planes without a hitch for over a year now. What kind of ESC do you have? Did you change any installation specific wirings and or components around when you swapped out the Micro for the working RX?

Yes it's the one in the picture.

I don't know about that service order or delivery confirmation. my hobby shop dealt with the return process so i have no idea where that is by now, I was there today, they said it might be in friday.

I crashed the previous plane in the glitch, I replaced the esc, and i was using hitec hs-50 servos wich i still have but no longer use. Could it be caused by one of them? They seemed fine and were actuated in recogniseable movements during the range tests so my buddy knows what to look for. I replaced the castle creations phoenix 25 after the first attempt, it had somethign wrong too so i thought it was the cause. Then i got a new one with the 3 amp bec and got the same problem on a new plane. The pack, esc and tx are the same i am still using today, The only elements removed are the hs-50's and the micro 05s Oh and my rx cristal was sent back with my radio too.


I have no doubt others like this work and i just got a dud, On one of the flights i managed to land safely and even switched tx's to make sure it wasn't the source. Do they really have a one mile range when they work?

i Just got it back today.

The service note said "retuned"

The shrinkwrap/paper wrapper has been unglued from the mainboard, to access the tuning "screw" and not glued back after the work was done.


I don't know, is it a myth or can i really trust a valuable/dangerous aircraft with this esc? I'm scared to even fly the thing.

I lent a cheap foamy i don't care all that much for to a friend. maybe i'll fly it on that thing when i get it back, just to make sure it works.

What do you think mglavin?

If the Rx and model pass a rigorous range check engine on/engine off I would'nt have any problem using the Rx.

me too normally... But this very esc fooled me twice allready in spite of rigourous range tests, so you understand my dillema.

Mine did something similar the first time I used it. It passed range checks on the ground and then failed shortly after the start of a flight. I had it in a small rocket-launched glider with no esc, nor motor, nor other onboard interference source. The first flight, after I made one turn, the servo froze in one spot. Fortunately the model circled down with no damage. I checked all the connections, determined that the battery was still vigorous, and performed an extensive range check with transmitter antenna down, through which it worked fine. After launch, the servo again froze after I made one turn and remained in that position for about 30 seconds. Then, the servo suddenly went to an extreme position and the model spiralled in and destroyed itself. What are we supposed to do when a receiver can pass a range check but still not work in flight? How is that even possible? Is some signal that it can only pick up when aloft causing it to "automatically" reject the signal from the transmitter?

I think we are supposed to switch to a receiver from a different manufacturer, and send the deffective unit back to hitec with request that they replace it for an electron 6 free of charge or refund our purchases.

I am going to write a letter to that effect myself actually.

I too am having the same problem with this Hitec Reciever, i put it on my foamie and no response, i cant figure out why, i have a 9CHP and it is set to PPM, but receiver does not resposnd, plug battery in and the servo moves from the electric contact and that is it, if anybody can help please do so, and no it is not the crystal because i put the crystal back on my other plane with an Electron 6 and it works like a charm, i do not think i will ever buy another Hitec 05S....Ivan! quick question, must it be a HITEC Crystal, cause i am using a Futaba crystal,(72mz) dont know if this may be the key here! Also crystal says dual conversion, if i must use a single conversion crystal since this is a single conversion receiver who makes the crystal?

You must use a single conversion Hitec crystal.... Dual conversion crystals only work in dual conversion RX's!

Yeah i'd love to send mine in, i know it's not a year old, i haven't been flying for a year and that was not my first rx. but i can't find my invoice (though my hobby shop could produce it upon request). I did send it back through them before and it came back re-tuned but with the same issues. The xtal is an original hitec single conversion (or it would not operate at all)

Can i send it in to you again please? (coordinates and "care of" info would be appreciated)

I'm going to try flying it one more time at the other field, where I think radio glitches seem to be less common. It did touch the snow briefly after the second crash, so I am sort of wary about wasting time by sending it back only to be told that the snow was the cause (the two glitches occured prior to, and the latter was the cause of, the contact with the snow). If I get a glitch at the other field, I'll just send it back no matter what. As the other writer suggested, it might be good to get a c/o to which to ship.
