RE: cleaning,whats the best
combo of a rag, nitro car cleaner, and an air compressor work wonders. can also clean the head around the glowplug real well too; make it look like new.

don't use brake cleaner on plastic ... i know i did it to my nitro car and ruined every plug on the thing(melts plastic and makes it more brittle if it's thin), air compressor works exc if u just take a few min to blow it off good

This is what I use and works well. I mist it on let it sit a couple of minutes then blow it off with compressed air.

RE: cleaning,whats the best
lots of stuffs I notice that is good and not good for cleaning any nitro cars...
1. Water with alcohol content-- makes the wires crack and leaves residue
2. brake clean-- dries so slow, and leaves residue
3. Hobby clean-- made and designed for the maintenance of any hobby
4. Air Compressor-- sometimes, it breaks something like little parts, or it blows everything off making the wires loose ( recommended-- check wire connections after cleaning with air compressor)
5. I noticed, the best way to clean the hobby is to use a nitro cleaner and blow it with air compressor

What type of air compressor do you guys recommend? I've been debating on picking one up, but can't decide on a cost-efficient one. Any brands you like?

I have a fairly big Coleman in my shop and then I take a little pancake to the track. The one I take to the track is just a cheap off brand I got at Northern tools. The only advice I can give you do not get and oil less!!!!!!!! You should be able to pick up a small one for around $50 to $100.

The theory behind oil free is you keep oil from getting in the air. But if your compressor is in good shape this should not be a problem. Now the down size of oil free or oil less they do not hold up as well or build up pressure as quickly. ! Personally I will not own oil less! I am just telling you from over 35 years of mechanical experience. I have talked to many people that have had problems with oil less.

I am sorry I told you wrong I got my big one from Northern Tools and my small one from Harbor freight and boy have they gone up! Here are a few links to ones that take oil but are higher then what they where a year ago. The first one is the one I have and when I bought mine I paid around $70 for it. It is on sale for about $90.

RE: cleaning,whats the best
I blow off the big dirt with air and then some nitro cleaner.
Then I found using a tooth brush with armor all on it really
gets into all the small cracks and crannys. The armor all
also leaves the skid plates and any other plastic parts
looking like new except for the scratches.
Also I've had an oil-free air compressor for the last
12 years with no trouble. Its a 30 gallon 2 HP model.
I have run it for hours on end using an air sander.
For the average user who is not running a body shop
or any other high demand application, then an oil free
compressor will be fine and last.
