Default Air Leak Question??

I was running my Savage today and my Axial 28 RR seems to still have an air leak somewhere as I have sealed everything and located an air leak in the past. After coming off full throttle and coming to a stop with the carb fully closed the idle seems to hang up high and then come down slowly sometimes it garggles and starts to idle crayz it makes that annoying lean sound if i blip the throttle it comes back to normal. Even if i richen up the bottom end needle till its almost all the way out I still get the same result. I am pretty sure its an air leak and the only place left that bubbles come out when i soap up the carb and blow through the fuel tube is between the carb body and the slide under the slinky type rubber . So my question is, is there suppose to be air leaking from there the slide has a slot in it so i suppose its suppose to leak some air but mine leaks a lot????? Its leaking under the rubber in the pic!!

dab some grease on it should curtail the leaking a bit.

Default RE: Air Leak Question??

I was thinking of some way to seal it but its too hard cause it slides in and out. Grease and sealing the ends of the rubber cover may help. My S25 carb is a tight fit if i plug both carb inlet and outlet and move the slide in and out i can actually feel a slight vacuum on my finger. The axial one just plops in it literally falls in the carb housing its a shame that their machining tolerances suck ***** now i may have to buy a carb i am not impressed with axial at all maybe i will buy the HPI 4.6 carb to replace this lemon axial carb. So to answer my question air shouldn't leak from there cause thats the only place left on the engine that leaks?

Yea I hear bad things about the axial carb. The size might be diffrent from the hpi to the axial though so you cant really compare the 2. I havent had any serious issues with my carb just some small air leaks around the pinchbolt and fuel inlet that I sealed. Sealing the dust boot wont help it can rip pretty easily. Cleaning the carb arm up and oiling it or greasing it is about the only option.

I hope its the same as the hpi i would rather use their carb then another axial. It sucks that this stuff is made so poorly dont get me wrong the engine flies but if i was a noob it would be extremly hard to not overheat the engine and tottaly give up on tuning it. Its impossible to tune if i loosen my bottom end needle on my other engines they will load up with fuel and stall and puff smoke/bog. With this engine i knew it was an air leak cause when i finally got it running kinda ok the bottom end needle was still to far out , far from flush settings. The only time that part of the carb doesnt leak is at full throttle and that is ok when i run it i have good power and smoke. Anyone else have any ideas???
