Possible fried clutch and bell
had my motor out rplacing the spur gear and noticed that the clutch bell was sliding on the bearings in side it, about 1/4 in of in and out play. put the motor and all back together and the motot revs like mad but goes kinda slow. pulled it up close and held it with my hand gave it the gas and it pulled a little then just kept revving and a little smoke frome the cb. i have no problem with a new clutch but is the bell supposed to move in and out on the shaft bearings? thanks before hand for the help.

Even with the brass bushing there is some play.. Mine is like that, 1/4 inch is a alot though..
Chances are your spur gear is loose.. Mine kept spining loose, I put a second 7mm lock nut behind it to keep it from spinning loose..

RE: Possible fried clutch and bell
i know the spur gear is not loose cause i took the spring off and replaced it wit a thick lock washer and a slightly larger nut in front of that and put the original nut back on with lock tite and cranked until it was all the way tight. i haven't torn it apart yet doing that tommorrow and was gonna try my alluminum shoes from other truck but am hessitant about the cb. the cb screw is all the way tight but it doesn't have any washers behind the screw, is it supposed to?
