Default New and Improved Super Heavy duity Ring and Pinion

Hay just to give you guys a head up HPI changed the Super HD ring and pinion. (IE Standard Flux gears). Where the bearing rides on the ring gear has been machined down so they can use a bigger ball bearing. The kit comes with the bigger bearing. I wonder if it is the same ones that are used for the pinion gear. The pinion fits right in it.

Funny this is just comming up now? My fluxcame withthe larger bearings and it still eats them. I blew the pinion and cracked the larger bearing in the first 2 min of my trucks life...It still sucks. I've blown 5 so far with like 6 packs through the truck.......My CEN diffs are going in now.

I stopped using them but have seen 4 go. that tube for the inner bearing race shears off. They also take out pinions like HPIs just not as easy. Fredj on HPISF just blew one in the front of his X braking hard to keep from hitting his kid the other day.

Braking hard definitely plays a huge role..... when you consider the amount of weight transfer directly onto the front end during braking its not hard to see why... A center diff or OWB would make a huge difference in saving the front diff during braking....

So you have the larger bearing on the ring gear? When I first upgraded the rear of my savage to the flux gears it used the same thin bearing on the diff cup and the ring gear. The new Ring gear has been machined down so they can put a thicker bearing on.

I have never broken a gear. Usually the bearing on the ring gear goes out then that causes the mesh to be off and it just grinds the teeth down.

I will post some pics in a sec.

I am glad I decided to leave the hpi bearings out and installed Boca green seals instead.

If you are handy with a lathe (or have a friend), then you can turn down the stock one.  Then you use a wheel bearing off of a savage.  My friend did this to his.  I plan to take apart all my junk and get him to do the same to mine.

Yes stock flux gears. U said u think they still stink. Y is that. What are u breaking and from what type of driveing did u shime them. Imm just teying to find out if there worth the upgrade. People have been droping them in the X,XL. I have the flux diffs in mine but my brother inlaw has the stock stuff and today he blew something in the rear just from ripin up the street with street tires no jumps. We didn't open it yet but I bet its from bad stock shiming. I added 2 to mine when I upgraded to flux to keep it all tight. But I don't know how much stronger these "super" heavy duty gears are gonna REALLY be.

Yea the shimming of the gears has a big part in how long they last. Just like shimming the Spur gear.

I would also thow some boca bearings in the diffs instead of the HPI bearings. Usually when I have a diff go out it is from having the bearing come appart then that lets the ring gear move and grind the teeth off.
