Tuneing The lrp 30
I got it on today and did my break in. I can hold it wide open it will take off like a bat out of hell and cut off. I lean it out a little it acts like its starving for fuel. I noticed that it tunes differnent that the savage xl engine that i took out. Is there a key to tuneing this engine. One other thing i think might be a proble is the exhaust i still have the stock savage xl exhaust on it. I just orderd a ofna 086 exhaust to go on my engine. Any tips guys?

Mine had a rich factory setting. Some times it acts as if it needs more fuel some times it a acts like its not enough. I think lot of it is my stock pipe cause not pulling all the fuel out the tank. I just orderd a ofna 086 for it.

They like fuel! I am terrible about trying to run mine too lean. I am having super performance out of a Dynamite 053 pipe and a very long header. Once you get close though, you very seldom ever have to touch it. Really wide tuning window, really, really wide tuning window!

Which header? The Dynamite header won't work.

I orderd a ofna 086 pipe for it. So chances are it probaly needs more fuel. How about on the low side? Does the low side need leaning out are do i need to richen it up a little. Its pulling wheelies with the touch of the gas with a 17 clutch bell and a 49 tooth spur gear.

So on the low end of this motor does it like to be richer on the low side compared to the savage xl? I have richen the high side. It takes off stong and sounds like it dieingabout second gear. Sometimes it will take off stong and cut off. This a little different that what i'm use to as far as tuneing. This more has a lot of power i must say as soon as you hit the gas th power is there. i geared it 17 clutch bell and 49 spur gear i was told that i did not need the 16 52 cause it was more gear than i needed.

Ruff,
I have the lrp 28, but your symptoms were similar to what I was experiencing.
The LSN likes to be a little more on the lean side and HSN on the rich side. I would get a bog/hesitation when I would hit 2nd gear. I richened HSNit up, 1/16th of a turn and the bog went away. Smooth 1st/2nd shifting now. I had to lean quite a bit on the LSN for the snappy response. I have the OFNA 053 pipe and it's been a great pipe so far.
I also noticed I was getting better results doing 1/16th turn vs 1/8 on the LRP.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_jioG_a7LMNot that my tune is perfect, because I have not touched the needles on this engine for several runs, but it should be so rich that is is blubbery when you first start it and then as it warms up, it can handle the fuel load. You can hear mine from start up to power in that video, once you get past the idling Picco... Glen

RE: Tuneing The lrp 30
Yeah for the XL...
The header that comes with the Dynamite 053 and 086 doesn't work, not because it can't clear the chassis plate, but because the flat portion of the flange is on the wrong "side" due to it being a truggy/buggy pipe. So the circular portion of the flange doesn't fit due to the .30s pull start cover.
So does one modify the flange on the pipe or the grind down the pull start cover? Iam leaning towards grinding a bit on the plastic of the pull start.

On an XL? About any header will work, it just has to have enough bow to clear the chassis plate.

RE: Tuneing The lrp 30
I got my back plate for my lrp 30 today. The xtm 24.7 back plate does work so that you can use a roto start Thanks guys. I think i have figure out why my engine might be cutting off sometimes when i go wide open. I did not put the return spring back on i think it might be open to much. Did any of you put the stock return spring back the lrp engine of the savage xl?
