What RC Truck Do i Have?
3 Attachment(s)
Hey guys, first post here and probably a noob one but here goes. I bought a HPI Savage today from a guy at work, ive had it running and apart from a weak brake, its all good as far as i can tell. Only problem is, i have no idea what savage it is, can anyone tell by looking at the pics? also what size engine is in it?

I'm not familiar with the different visual cues of Savages. There's the .21/.25 and then the Savage X as far as the chassis is concerned. For the engine have a look at the sides of the block behind the pipe and fuel tank. There's markings under there telling you the size and type. That looks a HPI .25 but it could be a F4.1 as I'm not that knowledgable with HPI engines.

You have an old school savage 25 with aftermarket HPI plates, a K4.6 engine, dirt bonz tires, HPI tuned pipe, steel spur gear and hardened clutch bell, HPI wheelie bar, inline fuel filter on top of the one built in the fuel tank. Good little setup, the engine would be your weakest link as they were not the strongest or most reliable. Easily fixed with an upgrade to an LRP .28. You need to change the air filter to a two stage ASAP! Plus it looks like your engine might have overheated at some point, see how the bottom fins are discolored? That's how I know. Apart from that, looks like the previous owner knew a thing or two about these and had no problem tearing it down and rebuilding it. They are pretty much bullet proof trucks and newer models have only gotten stronger to compensate for the bigger engines and the FLUX of course.

Why the pic of the Redcat Racing Blackout, just curious? I bought the Blackout XTE Pro with low expectations and have been blown away by the performance and durability, for $200 this thing is a beast right out of the box.

If you put a Picco 28, THS pipe, 3 speed tranny and robinson racing gears, you will have yourself a wheely machine.

is the Picco 28 any better than the Force 32?

I've had robinson gears since 2004. I have NEVER damaged one.
