how hard to build SS?

how hard is it really to build a kit? i've never done it before but i like the idea of trying. i seem to recall it has the same engine as the savage 25 but i'll need to buy a radio, reciever and servos...correct? what are some recommendations for what's needed? if i have to spend too much more i'll just go with the savage 25 i guess.

RE: how hard to build SS?

go with the Savage 25 if you do not have the servos and radio already. to make it a SS all you need to do is get a ribbed pipe, adjustable Upper Suspension Arm Set and Purple springs. I have a 25 and a SS, The SS was allot of fun to build

RE: how hard to build SS?

it's not that i'd like to make it an SS, it's that i'd like to know how hard they are to build. i dont mind buying other stuff, from what i understand the steering servo on the 25 is weak anyway.

RE: how hard to build SS?

yes the SS is eazy to build, and yes the servo that comes with the 25 sucks

RE: how hard to build SS?

cool thanks. i've never actually build one before but i have stripped my mt2 apart just to see how it works so im not COMPLETELY new to this. maybe i will do that.

RE: how hard to build SS?

The SS kit comes with the diffs and transmission full assembled...they are the most critical parts to assemble... If you don´t have a Radio with high torque servos then you are going to spend more money than with the 25... but if you decide for the 25 it´s recomended to change the steering servo at last... ohhh with the SS you must consider the reverse and the starter also... I have an SS and I love to assemble the cars... but I already have a radio... that´s why I bought an SS...

RE: how hard to build SS?

what do you mean i must consider the reverse and starter? doesnt it come with the rotostart dealy?

eworx 05-25-2004 04:51 PM

RE: how hard to build SS?

the SS does not come with the roto start.... it comes with the pull start on the motor it is about 40 if you change it out (well worth it)...... nether the 25 or the SS comes with the reverse setup..

RE: how hard to build SS?

how will the 2 shoe clutch of the SS hold up/perform against the 3 shoe clutch of the 25? the only other difference was the front fuel pickup vs the rear pickup of the 25.

i know in the long run i'll probably spend more money on the SS but i'd like to eventually upgrade the radio and servos anyway and the idea of building it myself seems cool. besides, im sure it'll take me awhile to assemble since i dont have a ton of free time so it'll break up the purchases a little so it's not such a large sum of money up front. now if i could just sell that mt2.........

RE: how hard to build SS?

it depends
to me...it's just an over grown eractor set .lol
it's straight forward and almost fool proof.
only place to watch for is... the direction of the clutch shoes
and the oneway bearings in the engine and trans mission.
black and silver system.Hee..Heeee
i can take it apart, put it back together in my sleep.

get the rtr and take it apart and rebuild it if you have too.
slapp the sterring servo in the throttle if you need to upgrade
the steering.

or launch the crap out of it than take it apart.

RE: how hard to build SS?

the 3 shoe is better than the 2 most people change them out when there 2 shoe goes bad. the tank on the 25 is allot better than the SS but there is a thread on there that tells you how to mod the SS tank to make it work right..... in my opinion you might be better off going with the 25 than the SS. just make the changes to it that you like.... as for the one way baring it is already in stalled on the SS so that is not something he will need to worry about

RE: how hard to build SS?

I think you must have the Truck and when you think you´re confortable then think how to improve it... as an example, for me is more important to cjhange the servo saver and the diffs upgrade ( by changing pinions and install another set ) than the roto or clutch... that depends the way you´re going to use the truck....

RE: how hard to build SS?

i was just listing out the differences i've found. maybe just taking a 25 apart will entertain me. who knows. thanks for all the input and keep on discussing, i'm enjoying it all.

Hello, I was just wondering if the Savage 25 RTR comes with pullstart or Rotostart? Thanks

eworx 05-25-2004 06:41 PM

RE: how hard to build SS?

it comes with the Rotostart

RE: how hard to build SS?

Hey bkmademedoit, I would go with the SS if I were you. If you get a RTR you may end up taking it apart to upgrade some items anyways. You'll want to upgrade the steering servo, the steering assembly (can't think of the correct name), the throttle linkage, possibly add a reverse, spider gear upgrade, and even add some better bolts instead of some of the phillips screws. Anyways I think it's easier to upgrade the truck while you are building it and you get a better idea of how it all goes together.

RE: how hard to build SS?

i'll need to make a list of all the upgrades i want to do and acquire all the parts needed

That's what I did. I had all the parts for the upgrades coming about the same time as the kit was due to show up.

RE: how hard to build SS?

or just wait for the losi LST it looks good too and for its price its worth it cuz ur getting jr xs3 radio and the mach26 engine just those two it cost u almost 400bux ..i think its worth the $$

bkmademedoit 05-26-2004 02:12 AM

RE: how hard to build SS?

at any rate 2 things need to happen.....i need to sell my current car to afford anything new and the LST and genesis need to come out and i need to get some reviews NOT from their respective manufacturers. i follow the old rhetoric that 'there's no replacement for displacement' so the genesis is looking like a winner to me so far.

badboy2 05-26-2004 02:39 AM

RE: how hard to build SS?

yeah i like the genesis too but i think LST is more worth the money ..but they need to realese them already ..not like the mgt which took them a year on postponing release date

RE: how hard to build SS?

i am pretty sure i am going to get an 'SS'. i already have a helios controller but the reciever for it is pretty expensive and i am on a limited budget. the radio is currently on my v-one-r. or i thought i could be a cheap futaba or sumthing which come with everything. is it ok to use a basic servo like the S3003 for the throttle. but i think i will need a better servo for steering cause this is a heavy truck and i will replace the stock servo in the package for a better one for steering..
thanks
