Built my Savage Work Stand tonight...

Built my Savage Work Stand tonight.... can't take any credit for the design... saw one on the net... and just copied it. Very simple. If anyone wants the exact parts list and lengths to cut... lemme know and I'll post them!!

Here is a pic with all the measurements and parts list:

and some action pics for your pleasure!!

It's very sturdy and I think I'm going to make a second one just because I can!! Total cost to me was $16 CDN... and I'm sure if I shopped around, I may have saved a buck or two... but I'm not too worried!!

when you say it's 1/2" or 3/4" are you talking 1/2" ID 3/4" OD tubing, cause the 1/2" OD that I looked at today looked WAY too flimsy to support a truck...

thanks for the plans though, I'll be making one next week....probably wednesday...

The pipe size is called 1/2"... should say 1/2" all over it. The OD of the tubing measures just over 3/4". The 1/2" stuff doesn't measure 1/2" anywhere.. not the ID or the OD... I have no idea where they get that measurement from!

Hope that helps...

well, I finally got the truck and built my stand tonight too, same as the above one except I used 3/4" PVC instead of 1/2" (wanted the extra little bit of height and strength too since I tend to be a bit abusive of things like this)

I like it quite well so far, though, I may extend the inner pieces out to 4.5" or 5" for my work stand that way I've got room to roll it to its side and work from there, I didn't take a pic of it by itself but, I have a pic of it with my new (used) savage 25 on it with the new round of rubber I mounted on it if you'd like to see a comparison with some truly massive tires and the clearance they have on the stand...

Your pipe looks the same as mine. Wonder why mine says 1/2" when it's the same as your 3/4".... and mine actually measures closer to 3/4" anyhow.

Oh well... nice stand!!

RE: Built my Savage Work Stand tonight...

who knows ;) I'm actually going to go get another piece of PVC and re-cut all the parts, adding a half inch to them all, and will set a small screw in to hold it all still for my display stand...this one's not too bad, but, my improvised cutting method, not so happy....

I used one of those plastic cutting blocks for $5.... screwed it to my bench and got perfectly straight cuts. (had the block cuz I was doing some plumbing at my place a while back.)

That's funny………… I work for the company that manufactures all the pipe
and fittings you guys used. I built mine but it cost me O,OO$. I used 3/4"
and just 90 deg. The top so the stems wouldn't get in the way while working on the side plates. Theres enough of a lip to hold your truck up. The last thing I have to do is cap off the leg ends. I love them cause its easy to slide around on the work bench.

See my gallery for pictures of mine!

I have nothing against a work stand, but...what's the real benefit? Under what conditions does it come in handy? I'm not mocking or arguing, I'm truly curious. Or maybe if I had one I'd discover it for myself. PVC is cheap...

RSHOE 10-19-2007 01:26 PM

RE: Built my Savage Work Stand tonight...

The real benefit is not having to plop your truck up on your wheels while
Working on it. I can't tell you how unstable a stack of wheels are compared To a PVC stand. It's also easy to slide around while the truck is on it. How many Times have you had to turn it around to work on the other side. It also Comes in handy when you want to manually turn your wheels for brake And diff checks. I think the biggest thing is not having to work on your Shocks while there compressed. This is just a few and I'm sure a lot Of people have more reasons.

doesgo 10-19-2007 01:35 PM

RE: Built my Savage Work Stand tonight...

I'd be happy to hear more reasons, but I'm already convinced! Being able to spin the wheels, check steering angles, and the rotation of the truck...that's enough for me. Time for a trip to Home Depot! :D

RE: Built my Savage Work Stand tonight...

Thanks, RSHOE. I've done plenty of PVC work so it shouldn't be a problem, but I'll definitely let you know!
