Savage XL Brushless Build

Finally started getting things together, been mainly waiting on my KD Direct Drive gearbox which finally came in after almost a month...

Anyway, here's what I've got so far...

Few little snags along the way, but managed to get everything together for the most part.
Looks like I've got a kaput front diff once again too, and I haven't even tried the BL conversion yet! [:@]
That distinctive clicking noise, man I hate it. Oh well, I won't be running for a while anyway until I get some Lipo's, a charger/balancer, new spur/slipper set up, etc.

I'm very anxious to try it out.

The Mamba motor is bigger than I had expected, I've only really seen pictures etc. but in person it's pretty damn big.
The KD gear box had a few little set backs as well, mainly things not fitting 100%! But that's to be expected I guess, hopefully things loosen up a bit after a couple slow break in runs later on.

Now, I've got questions:
- How should I attach this Mamba Monster ESC to the engine plate? Zip ties?
- What the hell should I use for a slipper setup? The 52t steel spur that comes on the XL stock isn't going to work, the gears don't mesh properly (motor gear and spur gear)
- Going to ask about Lipo's once again just to get another set of opinions from people, I'm half decided on Zippy's, but I would like to see what other guys like to run as well.
- DIFFS! - CEN diffs??? What's the deal with this and what do I buy? These stockers don't seem to hold up well at all I'm finding.

Pictures of your guys' setups would be great!!

I'd move the ESC way back away from the motor, that way the heat from the motor isn't heating up the ESC.

On my RC8T, I use the heavy duty velcro (Radio Shack is about the only place I've seen it) to put down the ESC.

I just had the ESC there for the picture, tucked under the motor so it stays put... :)

I think I will just zip tie it for now and then go from there, maybe if I find some velcro I can use that instead as you suggested.

I'd go get some aluminum from a hobby store (or metal shop is better) and cut it out and attach it to the braces for the engine plate (take out the engine plate as its not needed) and put the ESC on it, so that its basically sitting just in front of the rear diff.

Or you could go and do a mid-tank mod (without tank of course) and put the esc up front.

Is it really going to affect it being that close to the motor?

Well, the motor can go up to 200F, thats a lot of heat. The more ventillation and air flow you can keep between the two it'll keep unnecessary heat from transfering to the ESC. Then again, look at the Flux they pretty much have the ESC sitting on top and to the side of the motor.

Firstly, you should know that you don't need flux specific tvp's for the KD gearbox. Here is my setup, with the KD gearbox mounted backwards (motor forward), and the ESC in fron of it with an alum barrier between the ESC and motor. Also, I have my lipo batteries safely tuckd inside the TVP right behind the KD gearbox. My rig has changed since then, so if you want better pics let me know. (those pics weren't taken to show layout).
