I'm sure this has been covered before, but I damn if I can find it.
Can someone cover the specific differences between these two?
Thanks

Hi,
Here's basically what AFPD has over AFP:
Aircraft:
[*]Highly detailed new models, which are not available for AFP. [*]Flight physics reworked. [*]Light weight aircraft (shockflyers etc) and helicopters (piccolo) now work correctly. [*]Left turning rotor systems for helicopters added. [*]More than 4 rotor blades supported. [*]Dual head helicopters supported. [*]Smoke is now supported for 2 models. [*]Model surface reflections can be switched on/off. [*]Easyfly models are now supported in AFPD. [*]Glider sound added. [*]New free patch to add VPP (Variable Pitch Prop) feature and a new Edge 540 Shockflyer for it.
Sceneries:
[*]New 3D sceneries. [*]New panorama scenery function has been added (it has to be one of the most noticeable differences). [*]Rotating objects are possible like wind turbines (3D sceneries). [*]Transparent water surface (3D sceneries). [*]Moving clouds (3D sceneries). [*]Fog can be set from 0-100%. [*]Background music can be switched on/off.
General:
[*]Large preview image and preview text added to model selection menu. [*]Help text added to main menu. [*]USB cable instead of serial cable. [*]USB cable adds transmitter to windows game devices, so it can be used for other games. [*]Improved interface for easy/advanced transmitter setup. [*]F11 key for high quality screenshots, number not limited.
That's most of the main differences.
In additon there's an Add-on for AFPD which makes it even better!
Here's a list of aircraft, scenery and features on the Add-on:
New Aircraft:
[*]Augusta 109 [*]Aztec [*]DC-3 [*]Diamond DA-40 [*]Diamond DA-42 [*]Super Constellation [*]Viper 90 [*]Zero [*]Monsoon [*]Monsoon-4D (with PPS-4D system) [*]SlowRide [*]SlowRide-4D (with PPS-4D system)
Scenery:
[*]Photo-scenery Omahawks (beautiful field in the USA with a long asphalt runway) [*]Photo-scenery TheField (a fairly big field in the USA with a big grassy runway) [*]Photo-scenery PageField (Airport located in Florida, USA) [*]Photo-scenery Neuenbuerg (Gymnast hall of the town Neuenbürg in Germany) [*]3D-scenery MountLake [*]3D-scenery EggeLand
Other Features:
[*]Updates AFPD to version 1.9.1.3.[*]Support for up to 4 smoke emitters on aircraft.
If you have the Add-on there are some additional aircraft and scenery you can download in the members area also.
There is then the latest patch (1.9.5.7) which includes a few more features:
[*]A new air-race contest.[*]Wind direction, strength and turbulence can now be changed using keys ‘1’ to ‘6’ [*]The variometer is showing a green colour, when a glider gains energy (e.g. when you are flying in thermals) and showing in red if the glider is loosing energy (e.g. in a downwind area) [*]The rope length in Glider Tow mode can now be changed in the Glider tow menu during simulation
Hope this helps.
Greg.

Hello Greg,
since you are an expert in AFPD, could you modify a 3D plane making chord at tip longer than chord at root?
How does the plane fly? Better?
Thanks a lot.
