frames per second

I have a Pentium III with 1Ghz and 382mb of ram and a ATI Radeon 9200 128mb video card.

I am only getting about 46 to 55 frames per second. I thought I would get better with this setup.

does anyone have any ideas as to how I can increase the fps.

Also when I go to change the resolution in AFPD it says 0hz by all the different resolutions. Why is that?

Try going to 16 bit color mode first.

maybe I need to upgrade the motherboard and processer and get a little more ram!

on tiger direct there is a board with a amd athalon xp 2900 with 512 mb for a good price. Will this processor be better then my pentium III 1Ghz?

I have the same card but 1GB RAM and a P4 2.4Ghz. I get about the same frame rate (maybe 50-60) at 16 bit color 1600x1200. This is in photo sceneries. In the 3d scenes I only get about 30 fps.

Turning off smoke and reflections, compressing textures, etc doesn't help. Reducing the resolution helps some.

I'm interested in any ideas too. Probably just a limitation of the card though. Just too many polys and large draw distance?

I think I read were another guy on here was getting good fps with this same card though. I do remember reading about an update for the ati catylyst software that may help. I may go to thier site and download that.

ok I just read the other guys post and he stated that his ati radeon 128mb card was agp. Mine is PCI. I didn't know that the 9200 came in agp format. I have emailed him to see if he is sure it is agp. But if his is agp and ours is pci this could be an explanation.

turning off smoke and stuff like that doesn't help mine either. that makes me wonder if the card is just stuck in this mode. maybe the ati catylist software upgrade will help. I love this sim and I am addicted. I want the thing perfectly tuned someday. for now I at least want better than 60 fps wich I thought I would get with this setup.
