Loading AFPD
My son and I have been trying to load AFPD this afternoon and it is a no go. It gets to the opening screen and puts up a message: searching interface, and that is it. Never finds whatever it is looking forward, it just stops right there. Does anyone have any ideas what to check, we have tried three differant transmitters, two Futaba and one Hitec. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

RE: Loading AFPD
If it's looking for Interface then it's USB error. What version of Windows are you running.
Do you have another computer to test it? |
RE: Loading AFPD
Did you try unplugging and plugging back in the cable?
You can check hardware devices to make sure the computer recognizes the interface. |
RE: Loading AFPD
STL, we are running Win. 98, and it is running just fine thank you. Foamaholic, yes we have tried several differant ports, same results.

RE: Loading AFPD
Probably not it, but is transmitter turned on?
Could try uninstalling and reinstalling AFPD. |
RE: Loading AFPD
I have a comp that does the same thing. It has trouble with most usb stuff, In XP, start/control panel/system/hardware/device manager, does it show up as "other" with a yellow alert? If so I don't think it is a AFPD issue because my AFPD works on two other system I have. I am going to check a couple forums and track that error down. Chances are the simplest thing is a O.S. reload because somewhere a USB recognition driver issue is involved. I'll try to reload the sys mother board rivers first, then the O.S.. If you know about BIOS settings you may have something turned off, but don't go there unless your positive in your knowledge in that area. If the usb driver could be found easily on the AFPD disk the problem could be solved.
edit; just saw the 98 your running, reinstall sys mobo drivers for USB and pray[:@] The good new is 98 reloads nice, just backup the important stuff to be safe |

Old Bird,
With the USB interface plugged in, have you gone into the control panel and select gaming options. It should show "Ikarus Interface" with an "ok" status. If the interface is not there, either the interface is defective or there is a USB problem. Do you have any other USB devices hooked up to your computer that are working ok? If so, you might have a defective interface cable. If not, you might want to try the cable in another computer. Marty |

Afterburner, thanks for the constructive advice. We have gone into the control panel and the status is OK. We do not have another computer and we don't intend to buy one, or update to a newer version of Windows. In our opinion, there have been NO upgrades to windows since 98.

RE: Loading AFPD
If you are running 98 V1 then you need to update all the USB support. Visit Windows Update and update everythig.

RE: Loading AFPD
Actually, 98 Second Edition improved many problems with 98. I recently upgraded my newer machine to XP and the main reason for the upgrade was for stability. I have yet to see the dreaded blue screen of death since installed and there are other other advantages. My older P4 is still running 98SE only because I'm too cheap to buy another copy of XP. My old P4 with 98SE recognizes the USB cable and it runs AFPD but very slow. If you are not running SE you might want to upgrade to that. Good luck.

RE: Loading AFPD
OK, thanks you guys. I am not sure if we are running version 2 or not. I will run your suggestions by our in house compulter whiz as soon as he gets home from school. I also got a few suggestions at the field today from a fellow club-member. I'll post here if we make any progress.
Thanks again, old bird. |
