DirectX AND OpenGL???

Just curious. When you install AFPD you are required to also have DirectX installed or install it. If AFPD is an OpenGL program, why does your machine require DirectX? Is it only for sound?

Also what version of OpenGL is AFPD looking for - 1.0, 1.5, 2.0??? Box requirements don't say.

RE: DirectX AND OpenGL???

AFPD uses OpenGL graphics and DirectX for sound output.
As far as I know AFPD uses OpenGL version 2.0.
If you download a nvidia graphics driver it will be automatically installed.

Could you solve your problem?

OK, so now I understand the need for DirectX. If indeed AFPD required OpenGL 2.0, that could be the problem I am having. Does anyone know for sure what version of OpenGL AFPD requires??

I received my AFPD about 10 days ago. It had the option of installing Direct X right on the installation disc. I already had it installed so I elected not to use that option. You can download Open GL at:

RE: DirectX AND OpenGL???

Just checking the nvidia site, they didn't start supporting OpenGL 2.0 till about November 2005, so I would assume that if your drivers support OpenGL 1.5 it should run AFPD as AFPD certainly came out before November of last year. My drivers support OpenGL 1.5 so don't know why it acts as if it isn't installed. Slow, Jerky on the opening screen.
