JR DSX9 - anyone using with AFPD?
 

Has anyone had any success flying AFPD with the JR DSX9 transmitter?

I recently bought AFPD - but without the Dummy USB Commander Transmitter (unfortunately they're not available in Australia).

Howerver, the version I have did come with the USB interface, identical to this one (image courtesy of another poster):

So looking at buying a [link=http://www.modelflight.com.au/jr_rc/jr_9x_v3_x9303_dsm2.htm]JR DXS9[/link] transmitter and start practicing on AFPD before splurging money on a real plane and gear.

Has anyone had any success with this on AFPD?
Is there any additional adapters that I need to buy?

Reason I ask is I've read in [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_8425710/tm.htm]another post[/link] that your transmitter has to be set to PPM mode, and that this is a problem with newer dedicated 2.4Ghz transmitters which use PCM. I actually don't know the difference between PPM/PCM - different way of transmitting the signal I think? Why would that matter if the signal is just going down a wire anyway?

I believe that the DSX9 is the same as the 9303?

I originally had a JR XP8103, when I first purchased AFPD. When I bought the XP9303, it would not work until I bought the adapter cable for the 9303, from Ikarus. I was able to rewire the original 1/8" jack to accommodate the 9303, but then I could not use any of the other adapters for my Futaba radios, etc.. I bought the adapter cable and restored the the wiring on the original connector.

It appears that JR changed the wiring for the Trainer port on the 9303 so that it differed from the 8103.

My 9303 works fine with AFPD.

I think you will find that the Tech Support in this forum is great. You will soon see a Reply from Mike to confirm what you need to do.

Hi Peter, you should have no problems with the JR radio, whether PCM or dedicated 2.4GHz. For PCM radios, you would have to select PPM mode. For dedicated 2.4GHz radios, you don't have to select anything because the output from the trainer port is already in PPM mode.

Yes, the DSX9 is a re-badged Australian version of the 9303. Once I get the transmitter I will try with just the standard USB interface, as suggested by rajul. If that fails I might be contacting you to see which adapter you ended up using on your 9303.

Either way, I'll follow up for the benefit of other Aussies with DSX9s :)

Hi Peter, you will definitely need a JR adapter cable! Check if there's one included in your AFPD box. Otherwise get the AFP-02 JR adapter http://www.hobby-lobby.com/flightsim.htm

I have been using the Aerofly controller and just tried to install my 18MZ and DSX9 with the adaptor cable with no luck. It used to work with my old 6 channel Futaba 2.4.

Any clues on how to get this system to work with the DSX9 or 18MZ?

Do need to re-install the software because I've changed controller?
