AFPD has quit working on my computer
 

Hi, my AFPD has stopped working on my computer. It worked fine when I first installed it and quit after a while. My hard drive started to give me problems so I went back to an old hard drive that had XP pro and AFPD installed. I was surprised to find that AFPD started working again! Since it was an older hard drive Windows XP wanted to do some updating (including service pack 3) after the updates, AFPD stopped working again.

Is there something in the Windows updates that is causing the problem? My computer only has a 1/2 gig of ram, maybe one of the updates has started up something that is using more ram and AFPD does not have enough to run. Any suggestions would be welcome!

What is the exact error message you're getting? Did you apply the latest AFPD patch after installation? What type of video card are you using and did you update the driver?

I get a Microsoft message like this:

AeroFly Professional Deluxe main executable has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for this inconvenience......Please tell Microsoft about this problem.

My installation was some time ago and I don't think I did any patches, but really not sure.

I am running a GF FX 5900SE 128MB DDR RT. I will check for the latest driver.

I would do a complete uninstallation using the instructions found at the bottom of this page http://www.aerofly.com/afpd/downloads.html and do a reinstallation. Then download and apply patch 1.8.0.25 if you do not have any addons, or patch 1.9.7.11 if you have addons 1 and 2. Your video card is too slow for addons 3 and 4. Please update your video card driver as well.

I will follow your advice and try to the uninstall/reinstall that you suggested. I do not have any of the addons, so that should not be a problem.

AFPD is a wonderful program, at least for me. It has sure helped me get started back into RC airplanes without the use of an instructor. After some practice I build a foamie and was able to fly it first time. My flying was not great, but at least the program let me learn the orientation of the airplane before I got it in the air.

Could you take a quick look at your AFPD disk and tell me what is the version number printed on the disk?

Sorry to take so long to respond to your message. The holidays have been a mess and my computer has finally gotten beyond its useful life. It is time to get another computer. My wife's computer still works fine and I can run AFPD on it and it has a larger monitor, so AFPD looks even better!
