Hello to all you laser lovers, Well I am one also, have built 10 of the 33% size and 5 of the 40% size, over the last 24 years. If all of you like the "little one" so much, your gonna like the big one twice as much. I have the plans, cowl, and landing gear (2024-t4) not the soft worthless 6061. there is no better flying imac plane, and a lot of imacers are going back to the extra 260 which has the inefficent airfoil stab. The flat stab is more efficent. This is from an areonautical engeineer friend of mine. The argument that the brace wires hinders performance is simply not true. Regards to all Jack Strickland

PAPE and others building the Laser, any progress to show?

I am thinking of scratchbuilding one of these for a G-62 and am wondering if it's a reasonable scratch build using the Lanier plans and canopy and the Bob Godfrey 2 piece cowl? Any formers missing or things that are a pain to sort on the plans?

Thanks,
Mark

I've been reading with interest all the information about the Lanier Laser 200 kit. I acquired one in a trade some months ago and it was basically ready to finish sand and assemble. Whomever did the work on it did a pretty good job. I think it had been passed around for some time to various owners and no one would finish it. I got busy and have it RTF as of tonight. I had to add about 10 oz of wt to the tail to balance it, which I do not like to do, but did not want it to be too nose heavy. I am powering it with an old Sachs 4.2 with C&H Synchro ingition. I am using all the stock ABS Lanier parts, turtle deck, wheel pants and cowl. I did it in the Leo Loudenslager scheme, complete with all the decals from DieHard Graphics. It looks really nice, but it came in HEAVY at 24 lbs. I know it will fly at this weight, but I find it hard to believe everyone else who has this plane except me managed to bring it in at 20 lbs or under. I could have shuffled stuff around and maybe gotten rid of the 10 oz of ballast in the tail, but that would about do it for removing weight. I drilled the lightening holes, but used the door skin sides, etc. The old Sachs is heavy, but not 3+ pounds heavier than the engines mentioned above. With any luck, I'll get to test it this weekend. Looking forward to it.

I have an update: well as for my build I have been of an on and currently on the fuse.

But I Have been flying the lanier laser 1/3) I have 2 one built and the other as an unfinished kit) let me say this is the worst fling plane I have flown in my 10+ years of flying. It snaps violently when elevetor is used, landings are verry nice unless you slow down to much where the plane starts to change yaw and rock, take of is that of like a big trainer but the 3d stuff it just does not like it.

The laser I am flying was not built by me nor do I know the hystory of it, I fly it with a fuji 64 and a singer 24x8 it bearly hovers and the snaps and just snaps all over the place I am sure its not normal, itsn not D/R nor expo or anything like that.

This experiance has make me think about how am going to built my kit.

I was thinking:

1. build a n airfoled tail section, light with fly wires.
2. build light turtle deck like a super sportster light
3. Drill as many holes into the 2 heavy side plates used for the fuse
4. dont use wheel pants, less weight.
5. drill holes strategically into wing tube
6. drill holes into landing gear, and reenforce with fly wire, piper cub style
7. cut out sections of foam from the wing between the rib strips.
8. drill out hole where posible on air frame.
9. aluminum screws
10. make fuse longer to eliminate use of long heavy screws and stand offs fot engine mounting
11. one rally strong servo for ruder Pull Pull insted of 2 servos on the tail (anothe 2 oz less)

I think if I build like this it will be a compleatly difrent plane

Pape, perhaps the CG is off in your plane? My laser has none of your issues. I balanced both laterally as well as longitudinally. There again I do no 3D only standard acro.

well I stripped down the fuse and to my surprise, the plane was falling apart. The firewall Lose, the former after the firewall Lose, the two ply sides that go from front to back lose were the wings are held on, landing gear suport lose. Now I am going to repair and ligten it, and cover it in new colors.
