Not sure about small props, but for a 150cc I use the 3w 31.5x14x8. Its 14 at the hub towards the middle, and 8 about 3/4 of the way out to the tips, awesome prop.

A split pitch prop simply means that it will NEVER be efficient at ANY airspeed. What this means is that if you're looking for low speed thrust only half of this prop will be giving you want you want. On the other hand if you want to maintain speed throughout maneuvers only half of this prop will be delivering the thrust you need. It would be like running a twin engine plane with different props.

It means they use a higher pitch near the tips to compensate for the fact that their blades twist and flatten out under load.

Actually, my H9 27% Extra flew a lot better with the Top Flite 18x6-10 than it did with the Zinger 18x6.
Got a Zinger 18X8 to try Saturday.
Yeah, yeah, I know, I should be using a $60 c/f Menz, etc. Sorry, I'm not quite that deep into this game yet...

Im my experience there's one exception for Zinger props and the split prop being junk. On every plane I have had a G62 on a Zinger 20-8-14 proved to be the best. The planes in mention were 2-B&B Lasers, 1 giant big hotts, a Stinger and a still flying Weeks Special. This also was the case on a Carden 30% 300 I built for a friend. On a 62 this prop screams 7400 and pulls like mad. Go figure, Tried um all...

Here is a hint.
The Zinger props with the double numbers -at least all I have seen, are thinner than comparable sized props by others
IF--the prop stays rigid and does not flex and waver (big IF) -it may be just fine - provided the static load AND the thrust unloaded is matched to your needs
Just looking at numbers on sizes means nothing.
Prop sizes 18x8) are NOT like amps and watts -
the sizes only indicate there was paint in the label maker.

Did ya try a Menz-s 22x8 or 22x10? I'm thinking if you get the Rs up in the mid 7s with one of those props, it should outpull the Zinger.

The Menz Ultra have less blade area than the standards, although I can't say how they fly because I never tried one. In my box of props, there are no Ultras, and no one has ever asked for one......

Sixteen bucks isn't bad at all. Of course, I was a bit skeptical of your post, when I thought we were talking about a composite prop...
The big question is, do I go with 6 or 8 pitch???
Assuming that the Zingers DO "flatten out" (and I haven't entirely bought into that notion yet), what's to prevent the Menz from doing the same thing?
In my admittedly unscientific test, both Zingers I have AND the Top Flite flexed LESS than a 17x6 APC, when grasped in my fingers by the tips and twisted.
So, enlighten me. I am NOT trying to be argumentative; just seeking clarification. How do you KNOW the Zingers, et. al., are flexing at the tips under flight loads? More specifically, since there is bound to be some flexing regardless of the material, how do you know the Zingers (as used in a big glow engine, NOT a gasser) are flexing enough to lose efficiency, as opposed to a Menz not losing efficiency?
The big question is, do I go with 6 or 8 pitch???

What engine? I would be looking at either a 17x8 or an 18x8 prop based only on the other props you have tried. APC also make very good props in this size. Everyone I know that has removed a Zinger and put on a Menz and flown the plane.........goes "WOW"!......

APC is not an option; too heavy/poor throttle response.
And the engine is still new. I ran about 3/4 of a gallon through it on the test stand for break-in, and flew another half-gallon through it Monday. I'm still keeping it rich for now. But I wiil order a Menz 18x6 to try for later when I feel the engine is ready to be leaned out somewhat. It has plenty of power right now with the Top Flite 18x6-10, even though rpm is on the low side.
The aggravating thing about all of this is, once I get the model trimmed out for IMAC, all of those carefully-adjusted settings will change if I change propellors.[]
So I would like to find what prop this airplane likes best right away; and this is a bad time of year to be experimenting.
Oh, well...

I know guys flying the 18X6 on 1.60's and JS Pipes and they love them.. Lots of thrust for 3D with this set-up.. But this is the IMAC forum
