Default IMAC sign-up (new member)...

I want to join, but do not want to pay full rate for a month and a half of membership.

Does IMAC pro-rate like AMA, or should I simply wait until January?

The membership is an anniversary membership not a calendar membership.

I just wish they would offer another method of payment besides Paypal... I've been screwed by Paypal once on a credit card transaction and will NEVER use them again. I fail to see why so many people think Paypal is the greatest thing since sliced bread. Snail mail is slow, but I would rather wait an indefinite amount of time to get my membership up and running, than support Paypal's business practices in any way. Oops, I apologize for the rant!

Yes, I am aware of that. That's what I did... if you read my post carefully, I made the comment I would rather wait on snail mail than use Paypal.

Well, I too have been burned by PayPal and won't use it either. And now that I've downloaded the paper application, I do indeed see the "anniversary" provision.

Lowlevlflyer, I feel as if we've failed some sort of test, ya know?

Yep - I understand that. A few years back I used Paypal for a transaction. As it turned out it went OK but I saw a loophole in the transaction where it wasn't as secure as they tout. Wen I brought it to their attention I was igored.

So what is so bad about paypal?
I for one set up a second checking account with minimum funds (usually $1 or less).
I only put money in the account when I need to send it to paypal.
I do keep $500 in my paypal account to make purchases.

besides the fact that you get points at competitions what's the point of paying $20 to join IMAC?

Well, lets see.....

Server space and bandwidth to host the IMAC website.
Funds to offset the costs of Judge's School, i.e., the instructors travel and hotel expenses.
Funds to print out the rulebooks that we give to those IMAC members that attend a judges school.
Funds for conference calls by the IMAC BoD and the standing committees IMAC has (the IRSC and the Unknown Committee).
IMAC will have a booth at Toledo in 2006.

Each region typically has a small fee they charge for each pilot to participate in their regions point series. IMAC Hq kicks in a match to what ever funds a region puts into their account. So each region gets back some of the membership fees that each of us pays for the year.

In the SW we use those funds that are returned to our region, through the membership fees, to help offset the cost of judging schools; the IMAC Workshop that we held in December at no cost to those that attended the workshop (I still have the reciepts that I need to return for reimbursement to IMAC, about $400); promoting IMAC in each region, the really nice end of year point series trophies that the regions give out.

I am sure there are a bunch more expenses that the IMAC Hq needs for the running of our organization. But those are the one's that you as a member and also a none member get direct benefit from.

Regards,

Anna Wood
IMAC SW Region
Assistant Regional Director
