RE: Chip Hydes Cap X
One piece wing? Probably lighter weight..

RE: Chip Hydes Cap X
As for me, i prefer 1-piece wing for this size because it's easier to set-up. I can put this 1-piece wing in my CRV no problemo.

RE: Chip Hydes Cap X
Its only a 72" wing. Do you really want the weight of a wing tube and phenolics?

RE: Chip Hydes Cap X
Awesome plane. Have not seen one fly yet, but it looks rock solid. Saw it in Vegas. Problem is going to be getting one. Good Luck. The first round sold out and the next round probably won't hit until June. I decided I could not wait to have a mid size Cap.. so I just recently picked up the Kangke / Superkraft CAP 120, I think it is just as good as the CAP X, about the same $$ and it flies incredibly with NO bad habits. I put an RCS 180 in it and love it. Keep in mind I am not flying 3D. If I want to hover, I'de get a HELI.
Only gripe is the landing gear and wheels were horrible, but I guess that is the way of ARFs. A call to TNT fixed the gear problem. I don't fly 3D, but you could put a DA50 in it and then watch out!! It would need some mods though for that power. The fiberglass cowl and pants are amazing.. and the covering job is the best I have ever seen on an ARF. I give the Kangke CAP 120 a near 10. I had a Midwest Cap that was awesome, but did not fly as well. I am sure the CAP X will be similar to the Kangke. It might be a bit more suited for 3D too. Both will land well without dropping tips at slower landing speeds.... One piece wings rock. The Kangke Cap's is 74", I get to the field and am flying in 10 minutes. Fits in the bed of my shortbed pickup... love it! I see guys with the 74" lanier models with split wings fumbling with all the hardware ... meanwhile I am flying. Of course, as Quist mentions... tubes weigh something too... DP |
