Which 2 blade for IMAC?
What seems to be the consensous for 2 blade IMAC props for the DA 100? I am about to set up my 100 with the MTW tuned cans. I already have a mejzlik 28x10 and like it pretty much. Anyone try an Air Models 2 blade? Any other props for suggestion?

RE: Which 2 blade for IMAC?
I have the mejzlic 28-10 on mine and it really rips. I am going to change to the air models. At the JR challange I had one of the judges tell me my plane was the loudest he has ever heard. Since then I have used better throttle managment in contests and got all 10's on sound scores.

I used the same set up on my DA100 with KS cannisters, super quiet. Even when I went to a 27x10 in the summer, still really quiet.

RE: Which 2 blade for IMAC?
Hello Charles,
I'm the guy who bought the Composite ARF Extra from you. I have recently started competing in IMAC. I have been to four contests now and can tell you this about propellers. Don't waste your money on a 3 blade! You will loose performance and it is not needed for a 100cc motor. Yes, a two bladed prop will rip, however, with a little throttle management it will not make any more noise than a 3 blade will. I have seen a lot of guys running two bladed props on 150cc airplanes and not ripping them. Of course I have seen guys running two bladed props on 150cc airplanes and ripping the snot out of their props. I tried the Air Models 3 bladed prop and was very disappointed with the performance. Nothing wrong with the Air Models, just did not like the performance reduction going from a two blade to a three blade. I am currently running the Fuchs 27 X 10 that was on the airplane when I bought it from you. With a little throttle management my prop does not rip. The only time I am full power is on vertical up lines. As far as the Mejzlik is concerned, I think it is a good propeller. It should provide you with good downline breaking. I have found that the best way to get good at IMAC flying is to spend your money on gas!:D Mark Culpepper |
RE: Which 2 blade for IMAC?
Thanks for the info, glad the plane is doing well. I have been flying my Katana for 3D mainly, but found out when I bring the cg forward its a very, very, good IMAC style plane. I am in the process of recovering it and putting a set of MTW cans in it to quiet it down a little bit. Its quite noisy when using the 27x10 P-tip on it for 3D, but not that bad with the mejzlik on stock mufflers. I wasnt really wanting the AM 3 blade, but thought about trying one of their 2 blades.

Which 2 blade for IMAC?
There is a RadioCraft 35% with a DA 100, Slimline mufflers, and an Air Models 28 x 10 that is probably the quietest 100cc at our field. I fly the same engine and mufflers but use a Mejzlik 27 x 10. I think the Air Models is a little quieter.
Many have said it, though. The biggest factor to noise is the position of that throttle stick!! Take care, Dean Bird Sun Valley Fliers Phoenix, AZ |

The biggest factor to noise is the position of that throttle stick!! For me, the AM 25x12 3-blade is my favorite on the DA 100. On my DA 150 it's the AM 28x12 3-blade. The Mejzlik and AM 2 blades are also very good. A 28x10 would be my suggestion. Bill |
RE: Which 2 blade for IMAC?
What about a Bolly, anyone try one of those in a 2 blade?
|
RE: Which 2 blade for IMAC?
Bolly props are loud.
Mejzlik 27x10 is pretty quiet. I imagine a Mejzlik 26x12 would be even quieter, but I haven't tried it myself. |
RE: Which 2 blade for IMAC?
I decided against the bolly carbon prop since it was 13oz! I did however, order a bolly 28x10 wood prop to try and see how I like it compared to a menz an 3W wood prop.

RE: Which 2 blade for IMAC?
I have the MTW 75cc pipes on a DA100....GREAT SETUP! I run both the MSC 26x10 & 27x10. The 27 definately loads more, but does well. The 26 is no louder, but will rev about 600 rpms more, and the engine seems the breath better and spools faster (torque rolls). My favorite prop for precision is the AM 25x12 3 blade. Adds a little nose weight, is very quiet and gives plenty of pull...obviously there is a difference in opinion here. Some of the performance difference is likely the altitude...the higher you are the better you think you fly. hehehe. Anyway the MSC is great prop.

RE: Which 2 blade for IMAC?
Thanks for the info, on your MTWs, do you have any comparison in performance from them and stock mufflers? did you have any problem with the headers slipping out of the white coupler that came with the exhaust? I was running mine on the ground yesterday and the can slipped right out, the clamps that came with the kit wouldnt hold it.
