Prop for DA 150??
Hi I'm new to this size airframe and engine. I'm flying a H9 46%ultimate and am using a airwild NX 32X10 prop turning 5750 RPM. The problem is that is seems excessively loud and the tips are ripping. What props would be recommended?? I'm using the regular muffler setup.

3 blades
28.5 x 12 x 3 Mejzlik |
RE: Prop for DA 150??
What Krazyc said. That's what I'm getting for my Edge. Braking is very good with this prop.

RE: Prop for DA 150??
Ryan, did you build the aeroworks edge?

RE: Prop for DA 150??
Joe, I'm building the Lanier 40% Edge. Hope to have it done early Fall. There is a build thread in the Giant Aircraft forum, and I finally have an update for it after about a month....

RE: Prop for DA 150??
I've already bought a 2 blade spinner and would like to try a two blade first. How about a 33x12 or 32x12. I worried about the rpm reduction in going up in size. It is currently turning approx 5750. How much would the reduction hurt the pulling power?

RE: Prop for DA 150??
Go with the 32-10 Mejzlik. It is much quieter then the wood prop.

RE: Prop for DA 150??
Consider the MSC props- they are designed with the intent to remove the ripping noise. They are truer in length (ex: a 32 inch prop is really 32 inches- you will probably find that others are shorter than advertised) and a bit beefier so as a result don't dont quite turn as many rpm's. Even so, they pull the plane nicely. They have a 31-12 two blade that just might meet your needs.
You can buy them at RC Showcase www.rcshowcase.com MSC props have their own webpage as well: www.mscprops.com Dave |
RE: Prop for DA 150??
Dave and Brian from DA recommend a 30 12 mej.

RE: Prop for DA 150??
The DA will struggle to lug a 32x12. I would go with a 32x10 Mejzlik or a 31x11 Prince prop if you want the ultimate prop for the plane. It pulls awesome and is not that loud. However, the Prince 32x10 will rip when the motor is broken in. Most everyone is running the 31x11 and love it, and the noise is less than a menz, IMO.

RE: Prop for DA 150??
flyinrazrback,
What RPM's ar you turning with the PRINCE 31X11 ? Have any RPM #'s for the PRINCE 32X10, or any other PRINCE props for a DA-150 ? What mufflers or cans or pipes are you using ? I have a DA-150 with a Mejlik 32X10 on KS #1090 tuned pipes(header length=12.25") and it turns right at 6000 RPM. I have tried some other props and this is my favorite. Pulls around a 45# Yak pretty darn good! Barry Finck Enola, PA |
RE: Prop for DA 150??
Has anyone tried the P tip props? I believe this is what they are called. It has the tip that comes off at roughly a 90 degree angle.

RE: Prop for DA 150??
The p tips are great props, I will continue using them on planes regardless of the cost. They provide great pull. No rpm numbers for you though, sorry. The consensous throughout every one I have seen is the 31x11 on the DA or 3W. These are great 3D props and ok IMAC props. I say ok imac props because they are not as quiet as a 3 blade on cans. However, the princes I have seen on cans seemed pretty quiet and not a lot of noise, no more than say a mejzlik. At the hot springs fly in a couple weekends ago, there were about 60-70 planes on the field, and over half of them were running P-Tips.

RE: Prop for DA 150??
thanks, where do you get these prince props?

RE: Prop for DA 150??
tntlandinggear.com you cant go wrong with the 31x11. The 32x10 is a good load unless you have a fully broken in 150. 31x11 is a good compromise and a little quieter too. Let me know how it works out! Also, the 3W 31.5x14x8 3D carbon fiber prop is a very good prop too.

RE: Prop for DA 150??
Barry, Why do you like the 32 10 over the 30 12 or the menz props?
Thanks Rob |
RE: Prop for DA 150??
i have a few 32 x 12 menz if someone needs one

RE: Prop for DA 150??
From another post, the 32x12 is too much prop. Does anyone else have any insight on this prop? This is what I was considering.
|
RE: Prop for DA 150??
If you go with the KS full length pipes you will be able to pull the 32x12 with authority. With regular mufflers its a big load and wouldnt recommend it unless you get your plane under about 37lbs or so. 32x10 menz is a better choice.

RE: Prop for DA 150??
i have some new 32 x 12 menz i have never tried them as i am pleased with my 3w-150 on cans running a 29 x 12 x 3 fuchs[8D]

RE: Prop for DA 150??
My buddies H9 ultimate flys best with a Mejzlik 30-12.. An Airmodels 32-11 would work good too as would a 32-10 mejzlik...

RE: Prop for DA 150??
I'm running an Air Models 28x12 three blade on my 40% Extra. This prop really make the plane lock. My scores improved greatly as a result. Downside is that the downlines are a bit faster, and 3D does not have the same low end thrust. Benefits outweighed the drawback. I was scaring myself on the last quarter of rolling circles from the prop rip on my 32x10.
On another note, there is a concentrated effort to reward pilots at the Masters with quiet airplanes. The trend will be for quiet airplanes at the Don Lowe Masters this year, and really focusing in 2 years. DOn |
