SIG Cap 231
 

I recently purchased a SIG Cap 231 (73" wingspan) from one of the members of our local RC club. I plan to install a First Place 2.4 gasser in the nose and fly IMAC with it. Because I did not receive the instructions with this airplane, I am uncertain about the recommended throws and where the balance point is for this airplane. I am looking for someone who owns this same airplane who can share this information. Thank you.

I have one with an OS 1.60 in it and the plane flies very good but beware of getting it tail heavy until you get used to it's flying qualities. Start out at 4 inches behind the leading edge at the fuse. I have flown mine at 4.25 and it's manageable but landings can get interesting.

Sig's recommended throws are:

Elevator low rate 1 3/8 up and 1 3/8 down (measured at the inboard trailing edge) High rate 1 3/4 up and 1 3/4 down.

Rudder 3 inches right and 3 inches left (measured at the widest lower point trailing edge)

Ailerons low rate 3/4 inch up and 3/4 down, high rate 7/8 up and 7/8 down.

My personal experience is that the recommended elevator low rate settings are WAY too much. My Cap flies very well with about 1/2 inch of up and 1/2 inch down throw. I set all of my planes up so that they won't snap with a full low rate pull to the stick stops while at full throttle. Don't let the small throws fool you though as the elevators are very powerful, like the rudder.

I also think that you will have to fly the plane and tailor the rudder and aileron throws to your liking but the one's recommended by Sig will get you started.
