Stick or Practice Plane
 

Hey guys, I was wonderin where I could get a GOOD stick/practice plane, i saw some that were flat pieces of balsa, but i also saw at an IMAC meet, a cool EXACT scale foam stick plane, the guy even painted it to look like the orange fantasy scheme from Composite ARF. Anywho, i would like one of a Yak 54, but i don't really care what it is, as long as it isn't a PT-40 on the end of a stick lol. I just need one to get a good freestyle routine, and practice IMAC maneuvers.

I haven't seen the foam ones yet. I have one of these from Aerotech.

The Aerotech are fairly large at an 8" wingspan. I also bought several of the Hangar 9 mini airplanes from this place for $2 each. Scroll down the page a little to see them.

Just cut a slot in a small dowel and then glue the rudder into the slot.

I've also seen some people with planes made out of carbon fiber, but I'm not sure where they come from.

Download one of the GP kit manuals, print the last page which has 3 view drawings use it as a tempate and cut fuse wings from 3/32" balsa sheet, glue a dowel to the end. 20 minute job and practicaly free.

I used 1/8" for fus, 3/32" for wing, 1/16" for stab and looking good.

The foam plane you are refering to was balsa (maybe foam its if I am thinking of the same one) and he carved it out of a block. You won't find any comerically made planes like the balsa/foam one you saw.

I second the planes from AeroTech John has done a great job with these little babies andthe laser cu detail really makes them stand out. You can't beat his list of models either.

The CF ones are from Total Composites. I bought one on an impulse buy ($$$$$), it is cool and all but it does the same job as the $5-$10 ones. Only advantage is my 3 yr old can use it as a drum stick when I'm not looking and it holds up!

The CF stick planes are great, but they are much heavier than expected. Sitting at the computer and writing unknowns for eight hours all the while using the stick plane to fly through and test them will really build the upper body:-) Ont the good side they are indestructible, so when a fellow IMACer sits on your favorite stick plane it does not end up in pieces.

What about the fellow IMACer, you think about not braking your stick plane, but poor fellow IMACer ends up with something where it should not be.

I ordered the Yak 54 wooden one from Aerotech cuz it is cheap, and the same model we are gettin, so all i gota do is make it look similar, and ill be all set
