How good does your plane smoke with cannister? What kind of smoke pump are you running? Thanks Paul |
RE: Extra 2X2
Hello@ALL !
Im just building my 2x2. engine: MVVS 45 IRS MG, 23x8 3D wooden Prop (FlyTec germany), 4x2500 Sanyo mignon for ignition and 5x2500 mignon for receiver. first calculations weight will be 5,6-5,9 kg with 300ml fuel. more on: [link=http://www.chris.rcflug.com/extra300/1.html]chris.rcflug.com[/link] |
RE: Extra 2X2
Hello @ ALL !
"Looks like you completely removed the overhang flap, leaving about a 1" gap. Did you do the same with the ailerons? " Yes its true 1cm (dont know in inches), same with ailerons, only then you get 50 degree of movement. Ball links in combination with MLP servo arms are just the best you can take ! I would never youse the C-ARF method with the ...(? dont even know english word for the "things"). even secured with "Tygon" they open in Flight or brake..... next week i ll mount the engine and Muffler (BMB - Andreas Brömer, best choice for perfect running engine), photos will come soon. Thanks,Chris |

After much faffing about, many ‘diversions’, losing interest…losing flying sites…
I have finally completed this model…….!!!!! And made the first flight yesterday...... For those who like details Engine – ZDZ 50NG Muffler – JMB ‘ Pitts Style’ Radio 5 x Hi-Tec 5945 Servo 1 x Futaba 3001 Servo 1 x Futaba 149 PCM RX 1 x SM services Engine Kill Switch www.smservicesuk.co.uk 1 x 6v – 2400mah Sanyo SC RX pack 1 x 4.8v – 1700mah Sanyo KR Ign pack 1 x 6v – 900mah unknown NiMH Smoke pump pack 3 x Futaba HD Switches Smoke System – Pete Tindal www.petetindal.co.uk Smoke Injector - O/D Tank – 2 x 20oz Du-Bro Prop – 23 x 8 Mejzlik Carbon Spinner – Glass / Ali, Czechovakia origin Fuel Dots – O/D First flight was the usual mixture of nerves which turns into 'major grin mode' after a few minutes, despite all the 'cargo' of nicads/smoke system etc, which has made this 2x2 a heavier example, it does not fly 'heavy'.According to my scales, its just shy of 15lb 8oz, The ZDZ50 performed faultless, very serious 'grunt' will go vertical forever......:D Good flying Tony |

@Paul Eagon.
I have a Sullivan Skywriter smokepump. Works very well with the mtw75 cannister. I use Diesel for smoke fluid. On the previous page there's a pic of my engine, you also can see the pump and smoke fluid entry. Gr Gaaaz |
RE: Extra 2X2
Hi Gaaaz
Are you using 'standard' diesel or the ' bio diesel, & what is the comsumption like..? I use 20oz in about 4 minutes. Good flying Tony |

I use regular diesel, i also use 20oz in about 3 to 4 minutes. I also tried SuperDri. It smokes more, it's cleaner, but more expensive...
Q: Is it save to fly composite planes in cold weather? Doesn't the composite break faster (less flexible)? Gr Gaaaz |

Gr Gaaaz I do not think cold weather will have any adverse effect on the composite structure, if there is, I will soon find out as I plan to fly a lot over the next few month's..!!:D Tony |

RE: Extra 2X2
Is the OS 1.40 RX similar in power to the YS 1.40 DZ?
I was thinking about such a setup for the CompARF 2x2 and a YS I have lying around and wondering if it is realistic for IMAC. Not really looking for 3D insane power at this point in time. DA50 on 11lbs. is not exactly my idea of fun... Thanks. __________________________________________________ ______________________________ ORIGINAL: Buzz Lightyear Hi All My 2x2 has flown. I built it with an OS140RX to keep it light so I could use it as a backup Pattern and backup IMAC model. I put ALL the servos up front and used a bell crank pull pull for the elevator. The model weighs 5.4kg with a lipol and 300g of nose weight. I took out the lipol and nose weight and replaced it with a 340g 6V 2400mah nicad. How does it fly?...............beautifully!!! It will fly F3A and IMAC. After flying it around to see how it rolls, loops, snaps and knife edge looped, I pulled vertical did a 2 of 4 and positive snap in opposite ..............easy! It balanced well behind the recommended cg range. It will fly inverted hands off. I would prefer it to be a little nose heavier, but at this light wing loading it doesn't have a nasty bone, so I'll leave it. Cheers Buzz |
RE: Extra 2X2
Has anybody had any problems with the canopy coming off in-flight. It happened to me today and I was wondering if you guys and any suggestions on how to fix that problem. Thanks
|
RE: Extra 2X2
No canopy problems ( saw that coming with the ' instruction installation' I used the 'hook' at the front of the canopy, and used the same mounting method as the cowl, one either side, about half way along the canopy, the rear of canopy same princible, one hold down.
Can post some pics tomorrow. Good flying Tony |
RE: Extra 2X2
Thank you! I'm pretty sure I know what your talking about, but pics would be great.

Hey Guys and girls... first post to this thread.... I am about half way through building mine and thought you all might like to see the scheme I am putting on it. It looks a lot like a Yak because this is my "back up plane" to my 2.6 meter yak =0) Let me know what ya think!
Scott |
RE: Extra 2X2
I like the shceme, great job!
|
RE: Extra 2X2
Really like that scheme, very ' Yaky':D anything done to the fuse...?
Tony |
RE: Extra 2X2
Thanks,
Glad you guys like it. I will be tackling the fuse next... will look a lot like the "yak scheme" as well. Black triangle deals in the back with a silver stripe. I'll post another pic when its all done. Thank God for Vinyl graphics lol. See Ya! Scott |
RE: Extra 2X2
Plane looks great...now is anyone up to answering my question! (somebody is going to have to step up to the plate on this one....).
|
RE: Extra 2X2
I am using as much throw as I can get. My up elevator on low rates is set so it doesn't snap. I started with factory specs and went down from there. The down throw is a little weak but again I went with as much throw as possible. Ailerons were factory specs on low and as much as I could get on high.

RE: Extra 2X2
Hello guys I'd like to know if this plane screech when it rolls fast, like the big 3.3 (42%)comp arf yak sp, Thanks
