DA 100 Prop advice PLEASE!!!
Hey guys an girls ...I am in the process of re-covering etc. what will be my first Giant Scale Aerobat... A 35% Carden Cap 232 with a DA 100 for power. I picked up this good combo used from a fellow RCU er. Among the Myriad of questions I have is what Props (make and size) do you all use/ suggest? I will be doing mostly IMAC type stuff but eventually would like to try some basic 3d type maneuvers. I am open to suggestions for either 2 or 3 blades. I am also interested in where you all order them from for the best prices.
Thanks in advance for your time! I am sure I will have more questions for you all as I go. Scott In Maryland |
RE: DA 100 Prop advice PLEASE!!!
I ahve been running the NX 27X10 from airwild and I love it. If you want somthing a bit quieter then try a air models 25X12 3 blade you can get them from DA for about 125.00. I have one that I would be willing to sell for 100.00 shipped

Menz-S 27x10 for 3D.
Mejzlik 27x10 or 28x10 in 2-blade and 25x12 in 3-blade for IMAC. The 3 blade will be quiet. |

RE: DA 100 Prop advice PLEASE!!!
I ordered my props and engine from Gene at Troy Built Models. He is a super nice guy and can help you make the right decision. You can also try desert aircraft as they also have Menz and Mejzlik props. They are also very helpful.

RE: DA 100 Prop advice PLEASE!!!
Scott,
FYI, Hobby Hanger in Chantilly has a 28-10 Mejzlik on the shelf. I have a 25-12 Air Models 3 blade in my shop. Before you buy one, you can try mine. It was only run twice on your engine. Menz can be purchased from Desert Aircraft or Aircraft International. RC Showcase is selling the new Bambulas that are very much like the Menz now (new design). Don't know if they have a size right now or not that will work but you could check since they are local. I have a Bam 32-10 on my 160 and it works great. Probably not enough prop now as it rips but so did the Menz 32-10 I had previously. Flight performance is very similar between these two props so I would expect that other sizes would work similarly. Cool deal Dave.... and thanks for the info once again. I might just take ya up on tryin that 3 blade one day. Also just curious... at one point you mentioned maybe selling the spinner that was on this plane... would you still be interested in doing that? Just let me know!
Thanks again, Scott |
RE: DA 100 Prop advice PLEASE!!!
The 27-10 menz-s is a good all around prop and it doesent cost a whole lot.

RE: DA 100 Prop advice PLEASE!!!
I have been running my DA100 with the MSC line of props...I have invested in excess of 700.00 dollars in the search for a quiet and cost effective prop.
I use the MSC line of two blade woodrops . The 27-10 is good for a low time engine and the 28-10 will work when the engine has about 12 gallons thru it or when it begins to get loud with the 27-10. If noise is not an issue in your area then the 28-10 Mejlik works OK...but why spend the extra money when you dont have to. I use the MSC props on ALL my giant scale engines and finsd them to work well. From 3W106 to 3W140 the MSC line has proven itself to me . If price doesnt matter then try the Fuchs line of props from Aircraft International or the PAC line of props from TNT . I can afford these props but I find the MSC line does it as well for less. Hi Scott,, your going to love that Cap.. thats a great airplane
For screwing around and doing 3d your want the Menz 27-10 2blade or if Dave at DA does not have one get ahold of Bisson Mufflers adn get the 27-10 No Limitz prop<Its a straight copy of Menz> the DA spools up real fast with this prop for 3d and everyone I no that do no what there talking about say that same:) you will rip big time in the air though For IMAC.. you can't beat a good 3blade.. and specially if the judges hate your two blade:(, I run a 25-12mezlick on my Suk for almost two years until I tried a Bilea 26-10 3blade but I think myself you will be better on teh cap with the 25-12mezlick.. your plan is going to fly abit diff with the 3blades tough and might want to throw in 1/2deg of right thrust for the 3blade.. thats a trim thing you will have to decide yourself Good luck bud and have lots of fun I;m not..its snowing..LOLOL Randy rcmodelgraphics.com ORIGINAL: chipper11077 Hey guys an girls ...I am in the process of re-covering etc. what will be my first Giant Scale Aerobat... RE: DA 100 Prop advice PLEASE!!!
I currently have Mejzlik 28x10 on my DA. This prop came HIGHLY recomended from the guys i fly with because of the power for IMAC and 3D. This combo (prop, motor, and MTW cans) is very very quiet and has tons of power. i got all of this from DA.

RE: DA 100 Prop advice PLEASE!!!
2 blade 28x10 Mejzlik definately. Best prop for IMAC/3D and quieter than most of the other ones. 3 blade props suck. They are not as efficient as 2 blades.

RE: DA 100 Prop advice PLEASE!!!
Nearly sold my comp arf extra 2.6m da100 untill I tried a 26X10 Mejzlik I fly at 4200' now it spools up nice, 3d's like a champ, runs very cool engine temps. I didn't loose any verticle over larger props. I am using in cowl pits style mufflers. setup is very noisy but at my club noisier the better.

RE: DA 100 Prop advice PLEASE!!!
I have bought over $900.00 in props, I live at 4200 feet and in the summer our temps are a regular 100 degrees. I have tried every prop recomended, and have found that at low altitudes the 27" menz or mejzlik work well but at my altitude it will not swing it. I get great 3d performance and great IMAC with a 26x12 menz, mejzlik and even the NX from air wild are great. So what I am trying to say is altitude and heat make a major difference on horse power. Just base your prop on altitude and you will problaby do just fine, and by the way I am the first guy at our field with larger planes so It is all a learning process for me. Hope you have a good time with your plane they are great to fly.

I always had great luck with MSC 26X10's. You can get about all the props mentioned above from Desert Aircraft.

Finally I run into someone else running a 26X10 on a da100 - I am not crazy or stupid after all. I had to lie to dave at da - told him it was for zdz80 or he would not have sold me one. I flew it last summer in sacramento 300' elevation it chopped up that wet heavy air like it owned the place no loss in verticles, tail touches were easy like it was hanging from a string. |
RE: DA 100 Prop advice PLEASE!!!
When a few of us toured DA during the Shootout, Dave Johnson actually told us that we were using the best MSC prop for his engine at high altitude. The MSC is more lumber by volume and has a wider blade. My 2.6 Meter Comp ARF Extra rockets skyward, even at 5500 pressure altitude. YOU ARE NOT CRAZY! In fact I flew that prop all last season.

RE: DA 100 Prop advice PLEASE!!!
Glad you guys are liking our props! Our 27-10 will work well on the 100 too. You will find it is a bit quieter, if that is desired.
Thanks |
