Any BASIC IMAC Video's ?

I was reading through the schedule and I'll be honest, I have no idea what some of these manuvers are really supposed to look like. Are there any videos of the different manuvers that are listed on the Basic schedule?

I plan on attending an IMAC event to watch and learn. I might compete if I can get my hands on the manuvers videos just to see if I can do them.

Thanks!

Those video's were real helpful! Are more on the way? I have been more of a sport flier not a lot of acro, but I have always admired the guys who can do the IMAC maneuvers, I have tried them myself but the mixing of rudder , elev and ailerons does get challenging to do right in the maneuvers. So any help in the process is great!

Also I have been attempting to use G3 to practice but I am not feeling very successful at getting the basic maneuvers done. Is there a setup to use on the std controller they ship with it? Otherwise I'll just reconnect my prism7 up to it.

Thanks

RE: Any BASIC IMAC Video's ?

I just watched the Intermediate video posted at the above link. I'd like to make a couple of comments.

The opening figure appears not to start until after the pilot has passed himself. This puts the exit of the Shark's tooth and the Humpty displaced well off to one side. This then requires driving a LONG line back across the box to do the Hammerhead.

Trust me, this is NOT how the sequence writer envisioned it. Try pulling BEFORE you get to center and place the snap DIRECTLY in front of yourself. This puts the Humpty just off to the side and not DEEP into the end box.

You then drive a fairly short line back across for the Hammerhead. Flies better, more compressed and still looks good.

Second comment. The Laydown Humpty. If you try to fly it so the 2-point roll on the upline happens right in front of you can place the spin just off center without burying it in the end of the box. Also, try throttling down AS you push to exit the Laydown Humpty. You will find it easier to bleed speed and get a nice spin entry without floating off into the next county.

Both changes will make the footprint MUCH smaller and not compromise anything by causing you to rush.

Of course, I could be wrong. But then again, I did write the sequence, so probably not.

I videotaped this sequence. Its a little misleading as to positioning because I was standing a good distance to the left of Drew while he was flying. He is pulling into #1 prior to himself and the snap is right in front of him.

I will pass on your other comments to him.

We didnt make these videos thinking that they would be round winners. Just an example of the maneuvers in sequence.
Video makes it hard to really see where the plane is in each axis of the box.

Hey Aresti,

Did you happen to see how our buddy did at the JR Challenge. He helped me make those videos that you host. All of us that fly with him are very proud!!!!

The feedback that I got from two people who I personally recommended to be judges at the Challenge was that EVERYONE flew TOO HUGE. Both of these judges noted to me that they were unclear why pilots insisted on flying past center to start the sequence.

There is no reason to fly past center to start this sequence. Period. Your Bud was not downgraded for this because there are no downgrades for it outside of the Box infringement penalties. Which, as I recall, almost every pilot got hit with.

But like I said. What do I know. I only wrote the damn thing. I might be wrong.

I am happy he did so well. Imagine how much better he might be doing if he flew the sequence the way it was desinged to be flown.

RE: Any BASIC IMAC Video's ?

We've got the Intermediate sequence being flown two different ways at our field. One of our other pilots flys the first maneuver pulling up at the middle and ending further past center. That style assumes that it will stay inside the end of the box. It also allows the pilot to stay below the 60% top of the box.

The way I'm flying it starts before center, puts the snap in the center, and keeps things tighter. Bill's saying that's the way it was intended. But when I start in on the first maneuver, it goes well above the 60% top of the box. I have to start pretty close so that I don't get so far out when I go out for the humpty. Unfortunately, the sequence leaves you stuck at the back of the box for the rest of the sequence. If I start out on the first maneuver so that I can fly the rest of the sequence at the front of the box, the humpty goes well above the 60% top of the box.

In either case, the first or second manuever goes above the 60% top of the box when I center the snap on the shark's tooth. The other pilot fixes that problem by flying the shark's tooth off to one side. That keeps the top of it below the 60% line. He flys the shark's tooth off center and keeps it all in the box. I fly the shark's tooth centered to keep things tight, but go out of the top of the box.

What to do?!?!?!?!?

Fly a shorter upline, roll sooner, and roll faster coming down. There is no reason you have to fly so large that you bust the box top. At 500 feet in fornt of you the top of the box is 866 feet. Seriously, you're telling me you can't do this figure below 900 feet??? WOW!!!!!

Dean Bird 03-10-2005 11:55 PM

RE: Any BASIC IMAC Video's ?

But if I start 500 feet out, then fly out for the humpty, I'm now flying a whole sequence 800 feet out!!! Yikes!!

Except the Humpty brings you back in. Where do you get the idea that it puts you in the back of the box??

Fly a nice large radius at the top and you end up nearly back where you started.

THank you Aresti for helping write the sequences. I really like them this year and I can't wait to start practicing them.

Where should the Advanced and sportsman sequences start? In my previous post Aresti I was not challenging your knowledge though so don't take this stuff so seriously!

I'm looking forward to competing with you again!! Does Vegas have any good Mexican food restaurants we can hit?

Exactly my intention!! Now all I'll need is a little cooperation from the judges!!!

I usually do sushi at Sumo (Green Valley and Sunset) and then whatever else I get dragged along to.

Near that same intersection next to Joe's crab shack, there is a Mexican place that isn't too bad. I just can't remember the name if it.

No worries. I tend to type fast and furious !! :D

As far as where to start other sequences, I did not wirte either of those. Many of the Advanced Pilots I see try to take the opening Hammerhead a bit past center and center the rolling turn on themselves.

Sportsman I would tend to take the Half Cuban a bit past myself, but not too deep. It's an odd combination and is not as easy to position as some of the other sequences.

I think David was flying Advanced at the Challenge. I did judge him and it was a close race between him and second place. David flew very well.

But that said, there was maybe one or two pilots who flew a sequence that might have fit the box. Everyone else flew enormous lines.

On the IMAC web site there is a walkthrough of the Basic, Sportsman and Intermediate sequences. They didn't think the Advanced and Unlimited pilots needed that type of help.

Personally, I don't like the Advanced sequence. When I judged it at the Challenge, figures 1 and 3 were flown as far to the ends as they could so that the pilots could do the cross-box 180 roller. This is not a pretty sequence.

Bill, I noticed in an earlier posting in your reply to pks 560 you said I might have increased my score if I had flown my sequences " in the way they were designed to be flown" (Advanced) ------ could you walk me through the placement of each manuver the way it was designed to be flown so that I could give it a try and see what that presentation looks like.

Thanks in advance,

David Smith
