What Plane For IMAC ?
 

Well I Want To Try And Get Into IMAC Maybe This Year Or Next Year But I Want A Plane That Can Do All The Moves In The Book So I Was Wondering What Would Be A Good IMAC Plane Thats In The 40 To 60 Size?

for your 60 size engine and then practice - practice - practice.

For IMAC - keep the control throws down and the CG in the forward portion of the range.

Thanks For The Info I Will Be Looking Into It. Is Their Any Other Planes That You Would Recommend That Could Take Me From Basic To Sportsmen.

In Basic, you can fly anything you want. But above Basic, you need a plane that is a model of a full size that has or is known to be able to compete in an aerobatic box. Somehow, I don't think there is a full size version of the U-Can-Do 3D 60. So if you want a plane that will take you from Basic through Sportsman, you better look at another plane.

Basically, you are looking for an Extra, Edge, Cap, Sukhoi, Staudacher, etc. Since I don't fly 60 sized planes, I can't recommend any particular plane. But if you are new to scale aerobatics, I think the straight leading edge of the Edge makes it a good first plane. It lowers the stall speed significantly and that can be a benefit, especially to the newer pilot. But that doesn't mean the Edge is not a good competition plane. It has won a significant number of full size events and was dominating for a while. They do well in IMAC too.

Take a look at the Hanger9 Edge260 at Horizon Hobby. It is a beautiful plane that would work well for you. Also the Extreme Flight Yak54 87" would be a good plane. There will be allot of pilots using this plane and it fly's like a 35 or 40% model. Good luck to you. This will be my first year too in IMAC and I will fly the Yak.

If you could manage to get a 91 4 stroke - then look at the VectorFlight airplanes.

http://www.vectorflight.com According to the posts I've read, these make great IMAC aircraft. Apparently they are not so great on the 3D, especially wih a 91 - but from all I've read, these are well built airplanes at a very good price and apparantly, they have good customer service.

I'm trying to keep myself from buying one at the moment. But it sure is hard. And I may be losing the battle. Personnaly I like the Extra and from what I read (about all Extras, not just this one) they have a more definite stall as compared to the Edge.

Do a search and you'll find a lot of comments about these airplanes. Both the Edge and the Extra have lots of good comments.

LATER THAT SAME DAY - Well I couldn't stand it anymore - I just ordered the 66" Extra from VectorFlight. It was just too good looking an airplane at that price to pass up. I have an OS 91 4 stroke that really needed an airplane. I emailed them about shipping charges, and within 30 minutes I had a reply. ($18.95 in Canada and the lower 48). So it was 178.90 for the airplane and shipping. I just don't think I can build one for that price - that looks that nice. I've got a Hanger 9 cub that is just about ready for it's maiden flight - so the VectorFlight Extra is next:D:D

If you are interested I am selling my Midwest Cap 232.
it is an 80" wing, and has a Moki 180 in it..
It has all the servos, 1600 nmh battery (6-volt)
and a MPI miracleSwitch (regulator).

a few link heres, havent actually read the middle two, but threw them in anyway, the .40 size is very simular to the .60 size, although the .60 flys better they say.

The truth is, barring bad design or construction, the larger the plane, the better it will fly. That is why there is no correllation between how one of these .40 size kits will fly compared to a 40% kit. Even if in all respects the planes are the same, except size, there will be a marked difference.

You can feel the difference when you move from a .60 size to a 1.20 size plane, or from a 1.20 to a 50cc, etc. Each time you go larger, you will feel the difference.

I have heard that the Midwest Little Cap 232 61 Kit is a nice IMAC plane. I think the Great Planes Extra 300 would be a good one too.

The problem with smaller aircraft is thet they must be flown FAST. In upper classes, it seems the next maneuver must be done right after with a smaller plane and you get no time to breathe. Elements inside the maneuver must be done very fast also and you can get guys complaining that they do not have time to actually see what's happening. Mistakes appear worse when made at a fast pace so you get some downgrades.

All that said, I flew a 1/4 scale Cap all the way through advanced. I have managed to win some competitions also. I have tried the unlimited sequence a couple of times but I can't get it to look good... That must be me as the plane has the power, precision and weight required to fly right but it is just damn too fast for me...

Soooooooo, get at least a 90 size plane with good servos and work your way through intermediate if you are an amazing pilot but don't expect to fly unlimited with a small plane like that.

I'm not for sure about this but I doubt the funtana is legal for imac, so you can only compete in basic with it. That cap that llusion is selling is a great deal, I have competed with him before and he takes good care of his planes so dont be afraid to buy from him, or anyone else, remember you dont have to buy new. I started out in IMAC with a 33% Raven that I bought used RTF for an awesome deal and it was flawless. Take a look around on the RCU ADs, and if you are worried about the quality of the seller just look at the feedback for that seller, that usually tells ya if the seller is trustworthy.
