gangs of servos buzzing
 

i have 3 jr 8611a servos ganged for my rudder and i can't get them to stop buzzing .i have moved linkage ,i'm using a matchbox,but i'm still lost. help mr wizard![:@]

hard ganged 8411Aservos are very fussy about any mistakes - Ihave hard ganged 2 and any error makes em buzz
You must accept some buzz but NO "singing " with these when grouped .
do yourself a faovor and setup a non critical cable or other type arrangement.

I just set up three 8611's on a matchbox this week. This is my techique.

Set drive servo number 1 center (using arm then the + and - to fine tune center). Tightened up servo screw, then turned dial to "2 (the next servo in line) and matched center, then (with ball links visibly lined up with the screw holding the ball to the arm) set the (+ or -) to get the center aligned, then (on high rate) move the tx rudder stick extreme left (hit the (+ or -) to align the ball link with the screw. Then I move to the right all the way and do the same. Now, it looks pretty good, but the final step.

I pop the two ball links on then carefully hit the (+ or -) to eliminate buzzing at neutral (still on servo 2). I count each time I hit the pos or neg button in case I go the wrong way, just hit the opposite button an equal amount to get back to where I started, and then go the other way. It normally just takes a few blips on the pos or neg button to eliminate the buzz. I then do the same for each extreme. No buzzing.

Finally, I move the selector to servo 3, and do the same procedure for this servo. Its fast and works. There is very little, if any buzzing (unless the tailwheel is on the ground causing some binding, that is).

Its even faster the second time through when you forget and turn the Rx off before rotating the selector back to "0".

Don- That setup does not buzz when the cables are tightened?
Just a tiny bit?
On 6V I can get it all to zero noise -but simply a light tug on a cable will start the slow buzz and ditto on ganged aileron servos -a slow grumble /buzz from the weight of the ailerons - the mechanical linkage can be spot on but these things seem to read any error or work load -even tiny ones from a little finger pressure .
They do work extremely well - I just can't perfectly stop the slow, low noise on ganged setups

Get yourslef a curent meter and measure the current to the servos.
Get minimum current and then go fly!

never used a current meter ,please explain,and how much buzz is ok,never used digital servos ,but no worry i have flown before:D

My cables have gone slack after a half dozen or so flights, and I've left them that way. I can't hear the rudder over the aileron and elevator servos buzzing. Perhaps I'll try it right now since the wings and tail are off....

Nope, no buzzing at all. I lifted up the back so the tailwheel is off the ground. No buzzing at neutral. Moved right, moved left. No buzzing when it comes back to center.

The link at Horizon that shows "how to" articles is very informative. My article, which I just re-read and its a near duplication of what I posted above, (thank goodness my memory is consistent) but I've got some other setups to include 4 servos in the tail (rudder on the big Cap).

OK- but with tight cables -I can make em grunt - it is not much -just the load of the hinge frictions friction in linkage .
It isn't hurting anything

Dick--- Are you using a tiller arm/ bellcrank type setup to absorb the side load on the servos? If you like your rudder cables tuned anywhere above middle "C" that will help. Don mentioned loose cables that would do it too, then you dont have to wear out your expo generator.

yo ,guys, over here......i think i'm on the right track now.It seems that allthe servos buzz a little ,so this is ok? thank you all for the help.i'm sure some more questions will come up ,but i am nearing completion.40% aircraft are expensive and i just need to be sure that things are right.
