H9 Ultimate Owners (Hinging Control Surfaces)

Hey all you past/present owners and flyers, need some information and advice. I also asked Mike Mac (M&M) the same question. I know the instructions say to use CA hinges for the elevators and the rudder but have any of you used Robart hinges instead. I know the woods thickness is questionable but have any of you tried it with success? I am building my Ultimate with a new covering job and I am about to hinge the surfaces. My Ultimate is covered in white, red, black, and green (the Krispy Kreme logo colors). No, the Ultimate does not look like a donut but it does look good. I also installed K&S Cannisters on the DA150, can not wait to hear the sound. Thanks to all who respond. Chic White

This is what my CA hinges looked like on my AeroTeck Velox Revolution II after I grabed hold of the rudder to pull the plane off the runway after my gear collapsed

My H9 Ultimate has Robart Hinges init. I like them. They worked perfect in the past. Easier to setup also then regular CA hinges.

Hey Tail Strike, Were there only 3 hinges used on the rudder or are the others in the missing control piece??

Well for the elevator and rudder I am going to use dubro heavy duty nylon hinge
they look exactly the same as the ones in the instruction
I do not trust ca hinges for this size of aircraft
I saw one time a H9 Edge the 1.20 size lost both ailerons in the air
the ca hinges all of them break apart
the ones in the edge were exactly like the ones in the

Chic,

While the Robarts may work, I'd probably go with the large flat hinges- Sig, Dubro, etc. I'd use the beefy ones. You can pin them too. You might go on Mike McConville's forum and ask if he used the CA hinges or not. I personally wouldn't use them on a 40% plane.

I am currently flying Ultimate #2 and #3. 1 and 2 had the Dubro Flat hinges and pinned per the manaul. The manual does not say to us CA hinges. #3 has Robarts all they way around. See www.rcshowcase.com user pics for pics of plane 1 & 2.
