Recording the sequence
 

I find myself wanting to practice the basic routine
at our club but most of the time it is just myself
and one other person.

I was thinking of recording the basic routine onto
a MP3 player. Have any of you ever done this?

It would be great to have the MP3 player "call"
for me until I can remember it.

I hate the sound of my own voice, so I would like to
get a female recording of the basic routine.

it would work but thring to work out the intervals between each manuver. cause some times due to wind or what ever it may take a little long to finish the loop or the cuban so you have to think about those things. cause what if you still doing a manuver and then it calls it too soon then you teing to fly that manuver and then tring to remember the next or what if you finish a manuver real soon and you need the next called right away and it still hasn't called it??? just alot of varabils to think about. i fly basic also. i also made my own manuver list so my caller would say what i exacly want to hear. cause i cn never remember which way a reverse or normal cuban goes. so i right it out what i do first like on a reverse cuban i write 45degree up line with half roll. i don;t put the loop pat cause i know it's a cuban i just need to know what to do first. like for a regular cuban i write half loop first with a 45 down line. i then would take this pocket call sheet and pin it up on my antenna and after each manuver while in the straight line between things i would just glimps down and see what to do. now i only do thing ever now and then when i fly alone. i hope some of these ideas helpss!!!

Update....

I have done this and it works great.

I got ahold of a mini MP3 player, it was free with
something my wife purchased on line.

I opened up the unit and found the location of the
switch that makes the player advance to the next
track/song/mp3.

I soldered wires to the board and ran them to the
outside of the case. I built a low profile switch out
of thin brass plate and used velcro to hold it in place
under my fingers where they grip the radio.

Then I typed out the sequence the way I wanted it
read to me. I found a text to voice converter on the
web. I choose a nice female voice and converted each
maneuver into a .wav file and saved it on my PC. Next
I added 30 seconds of dead air to the end of each maneuver,
and save each one as a separate MP3. I copies them in
order to the MP3 player.

At the field I start the plane, taxi out to the edge of the runway,
start the MP3 player, take off, and simply press the switch under
my fingers to advance to the next maneuver as I need them.

No timing issues to worry about at all.

This thing is fantastic !!!!

Here are some pictures...

First pictures are the switch I made. 2 brass plates
with thin plastic between them. velcro holds the
switch to the radio.

Next is the mini MP3 player with the switch plugged
in and unplugged. I added the external plug with
5 minute epoxy.

Next is the plastic mounting plate. Just some plastic
bent to fit with velcro.

The earphones plug in the bottom of the player.

Thats pretty slick Advent, thanks for sharing it. I considered making a CD for the car to memorize the sequence.
You have a marketable unit for Pattern and IMAC.

That would be entertaining to trade some "unknowns" with someone, and try to fly it with no "stick" practice.

Your invention is really neat! I know the Futaba 14MZ has a built in MP3 player. You just record and/or upload the info and then pull the snap switch(reassigned) to hear the next maneuver. It will also play music. I have heard it, pretty cool[8D]

Thank's guys,

It has helped me a lot during practice. I hated to bother
other fliers to call for me, very few of them fly a
sequence, but this makes it easy.

Even if I never compete I still prefer to fly a known sequence,
it helps me focus on my flying skills rather then just flying
around.

Same here. I try but something always seems to keep me from getting there. But I still prefer having a sequence to give me something to work on. [8D]
