Pull-Pull cable Q

Hi folks

Had my rudder cable snap on my 84' Yak 54 and have some plastic coated Kevlar cable kicking around the shop. Before I spend the time and effort has anyone tried using this instead of the braided steel version? Pros/cons?

Thanks

Dave

Dave,

It will be simpler to install, for sure. I can tell you that I had uncoated Kevlar on an 84" Edge a few years ago with no problems. I always watched for fraying, but never saw any. I can't imagine why it wouldn't work.

Thanks for your input guys. I replaced the cable today (with Kevlar) and will fly it this weekend.... and yes it will stretch to a point then settle. At least that is what I have found on the pattern ships.

I have busted 2 cables on my 33% plane.
What do you guys with cables use to keep it from breaking?

Try plastic coated steel fishing leader material - in the 80 to 100# test range.
Berkley is a common brand carried at well stocked fishing outlets. They sell
the crimps as well.

Well so far it's working just fine. The plastic coated Kevlar cable "just" made it through the eyelet hole of the coupler. I tied a knot and then inserted the threaded rod into the coupler for a very secure attachment. It is not coming out.

My buddy Mark had a similiar failure [&o] and replaced his as well. I'll report again if either fails again.

Safe flying.

1/16th garage door cable from ace hardware and 4 solder on dubro 4-40 threaded couplers and have never broke one or had interference from them
