Anytime, its fun!

Hey, we tried, it was the first shot and we will only get better! It didnt seem so far out when I was taping, but I agree with you on that one.

Thanks!

I've been looking for a video like this of the basic. Thanks for doing this.

Had another look...

You're right, the entire sharks tooth is there, I just read the diagram wrong.. :stupid:

What you could do to this video to save filming again, is to add a voice over track for narration and/or add subtitles at the bottom of the screen indicating each maneuver...

Hey John, hope you didn't take offense, its a great video, very helpful.....

Great job guys!!!

Ryan and John,

Thanks for taking the time to do this. I watched and video taped a lot of the sequences at last years TOC to try and get a picture of how it is supposed to look. Your video did a great job of showing the sequence.

I like what Tiggerinva is saying. Take that video and have Ryan do a critique of the maneuvers on a voice over. But still be able to hear the engine. Kind of like:

"... at the end of the 5/8ths loop in the "1/2 Cuban 8" I am looking to do my half roll right in the middle of my down line, like this... now... I carry the line the same distance before pulling out level...now..."

If, say you start your half roll early or your loop isn't just right you could say something like "here is something the judges will be looking at. If I'd eased off elevator just a little more at the top... here..., I would have kept a nice roundness to my loop".

As a beginner to precision flying it's all those little things like adding rudder/elevator to keep the nose level on a slow roll, etc. that the better the flyer the more it's taken for granted (mostly because you are so far past that, it's just a natural stick movement you don't even think about).

Another video that would really be cool is of a flight designed to show how to trim and mix. Like a 45* upline roll to inverted to check C.G. or a center line vertical decent to see which way the plane pulls. The voice over narration with maybe another shot of the same maneuver after you've made a correction to show the difference, would be awesome.

Again, thanks guys that was an awesome job.

Happy flying!

Scott

awesome awesome video! I can already do most of those maneuvers! :) I just have to memorize their names, hehe

MORE VIDEO"S!!!!! :)

Quick question: 2 turn upright spin...is that done with rudder after it stalls? I want to learn that one

thanks guys, good work!

I used rudder and aileron (with full up elevator) to do the spin. Make sure the plane's nose drops a little before starting the spin; hitting the rudder and aileron too soon will make it look like you are 'snapping' into the spin, earning you a 0 for the maneuver.

Being a newbi IMAC guy myself, I have only practiced a few basics. But I must say the hardest part is keeping it all straight, its keeping it from getting out too far, keeping loops round, and all lines straight. Ill be flying and Ryan will say add some left rudder, then its add some of this. That is what makes it good, knowing what to add and how to keep everything clean.

:D

Glad the vid is helping some out!! Next one will be better yet;)

keep it up John.

Wish there was something where the move was performed and someone did commentary over it explaining how the move is done. That would be ultimate for newbies like me.

:)

BasinBum, where can I find the SCAT sequence?

I haven't looked at the latest version yet, the PC at work won't let me :(

I don't think you're going to be able to stand close enough to get a clear narration using the built in mic on the camera without either causing a distraction or having the pilot or antenna obscuring the view.

If you want the narration 'as it happens' you'll probably need to plug in a clip on mic.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have another (somewhat related) request: I've got a digital 8 camcorder I've had for a while and a copy of DV studio. As you've got some expereince on this subject, I'd be interested to know the steps in transferring the video and getting it onto a web page... Perhaps a thread on posting RC videos?

Here:

I showed up at the field to fly last month and they had a pre-basic and basic event. I figure what the heck and entered pre-basic with my funfly somethin extra and took 3rd ( I showed up too late to practice the sequence). It was a real learning experience and opened my eyes to IMAC flying instead of just punching holes in the sky.

Now that I have a 300s extra 1/4 scale I figure I'll practice the basic pattern for the next event and seeing the video was very helpful. As busy as our field is virtually no one flies IMAC and I didn't know how different a Humpty should look from a sharks-tooth.

Thanks.
