V 6 Software

Is their some hidden setting for fuel pump flow in the new version 6 software. I just got my P70 back from Jet Cat and it doesn't start up like it used to. I have both UNAC 1 and 2 set to maximum and they still both seem to low. The engine has to crank a long tome before it will light off.

Thanks,

Norm

RE: V 6 Software

My P-120 was upgraded to 6.0 version and is doing something similar. On start up, the turbine ignites on propane, rpm's increase slightly, then it just runs on propane until I get ACC SLOW and it shuts down. The only way I can get it start and keep running is to shake the propane can really hard. Once I do that, the engine ramps up quickly and runs fine.
I really wish JETCAT USA would tell us what each software version does when they upgrade the ECU's.

I also noticed:

P-120SE with V6.0C
Max RPM factory set to 123,000 rpm
The menu s/w allows you to increase this to 125,000 rpm.

Should I ? :D

I had a similar sort of experience with a newly repaired Jetcat - timeouts and failed starts etc unless I bumped extra propane in. Turns out that the EGT probe got bumped sometime during packing / unpacking / installation, such that the probe was not sticking through the hole in the tailcone and was instead just touching the tailcone. As soon as I fixed the probe, it behaved like a Jetcat again :D

May not be the issue in your case, but perhaps worth checking anyway.

Thanks Gordon, I'll check the EGT sensor. That's funny because that's the component that was replaced!

Hi Norm,

As for the turbine "cranking" before it "lights off", do you mean before the starting gas (Powermax) lights off? If this is what you are referring too, try a Novarossi plug with the element pulled out like the manual shows, and set the glow voltage to about 2.75 volts. Lower the gas percentage down about 10-20% from where it is now and try that.

As for the pump parameters, when you sent you turbine in, did you send the pump? Just curious, trying to find out how old the pump is. Do you have a spare to try? I have a spare I can loan you if you want to try that, shoot me a PM with your address and I will get it to you if you need one. These parameters can vary quite a bit (based ont he individual variations of the PUMP, not the turbine), and *****g them both out on most pumps will yield a lot of flames.

If you hold down the "Limits" button, then press "+" it will take you straight to a submenu for the Uaccel voltages. If indeed you have maxed them both out, I would suspect a bad pump. Can you PM me both of those pump voltage parameters as well, that will help for troubleshooting.

Looking forward to getting this turbine running well!

Regards,

Hi Joel,

The Version 6 ECU supports the "SE" (Titan and P-120) configurations, primarily.

As for what you are seeing on start up, you might want to increase the Uaccel1 parameter a tenth of a volt or 2. Also, I am not sure what you mean by shaking your propane can hard. If you mean you are shaking it while filling the internal tank, I have seen again over the weekend a PowerMax can have the internal clunk fall out and only gaseous propane fill the internal tank. The shaking is just getting more liquid to the turbine.

Are you running internal or external starting gas?

Look forward to getting your set up squared away.

RE: V 6 Software

Hi Matt,

My propane tank for starting the turbine is external; same one that is sent with motors. This is the tank I have to shake in order to get the motor to ramp up. The powermax flows fine into this can without shaking.
I just got this motor back a week ago. The fuel pump is new and the EGT sensor was replaced. The first 2 starts after getting it back were perfect. Pump start voltage was 2.00, however, I had to bump this up to 2.75 or 3 volts since the flow changed as the pump was breaking in. At first I thought the fuel pump was not running, but this doesn't seem to be the case. Also, is the Uaccel1 the same as fuel pump start voltage?
Thanks for the new version explanation!

RE: V 6 Software

Update: I re-adjusted the pump start voltage, lowered the propane to 60% and installed new glow plug. It started and ran fine!

Glad to hear it. Let me know if I can be any help.
