Default 6 volt battery for rx of xp6102?

Is it okay to use a 5 cell 6 volt battery for the reciever on a xp6102 radio that is 72 mgz? I believe it came with a 4 cell 4.8 volt battery. the specs on the receiver talk about 4.8 volts but the manual does not mention using a 6 volt battery. I believe this radio was manufactured before 2.4 radios were being built.

6 volts is fine, the rx's are good up to 9v input. You just have to make sure your servos are ok with more voltage. Basically any modern servo is usable up to 6v, with the rare exception af some retract servos and heli tail rotor servos. If you are using HV servos, you pack can be up to 7.4v. The rx doesn't care.

I would call Horizon to be sure unless someone else here has used that Rx with 6v. Even if that Rx will work with 6v, be sure the servos you use can handle 6v. There are some that do not.

Rich, to my knowledge all rx's from jr/fut/hitec/airtonics since at least narrow banding in 1991 have been able to use at least 6v packs. The jr 6102 would have come with the r700 (ppm) or r770(pcm) rx. Both of these I have used with 6v with no problems or warnings from the distrbutor. JR themselves was making 5 cell rx packs long before 2.4ghz came out.
Again, servos would be the question- not every servo out there is rated for 6 volts. If he is using standard servos though, I.e. jr 537, 517, futaba 148 or 3003 or the like then he is good to go. 6v is a great way to boost the performance of servos as well as provide protection if one of the cells in the pack goes bad.

Thanks!!

I thought that the Rx was 6v capable, but I could not find confirmation on the Horizon or JR site.

I have switched to 2cell LiFe Rx packs at 6.6v, with voltage regulation if necessary. They are Light, Charge fast, and hold their charge for a long time.

Thank you for the replies. I have been running the servos s3004 futaba with the 6 volt pack and they have been working fine. Had to install this radio in the plane I am flying for now as I have to send my Futaba radio in for service. Bought the JR radio brand new for I think 80.00 and it was 200.00 or more when it was being made.

Flew the radio today and it worked fine. Numerous flights with my Kadet lt 40. Nice sunny day and was fun.
