I do not believe you can.

RE: JR10x to DSMX

The 10X is not able to be upgraded. As it uses the Spektrum module, can not be done. Therefore all J.R. transmitters, including the XP9303 that use a module are excluded from DSMX. Another way to look at it is any radio with PPM, and PCM are out.

Hope this helps.

Was hoping a new module would make the transition

Who knows what Spektrum will do.... ideally they want everyone to dump the modular approach and go for the embedded systems. More sales of Spektrum rather than JR.

I am pretty sure the 9303/9503 can be upgraded to DSMX

The following is from Horizon Hobby website.

If you wish to add-on your JR 12X you will need to purchase this product: JRP12XUPG
Note: If you purchased your JR 12X on or after November 1, 2010 you are eligible for a full add-on refund. Visit the product add-on page for details.

JR 11X
If you wish to add-on your JR 11X you will need to purchase this product: JRP11XUPG
Note: If you purchased your JR 11X on or after November 1, 2010 you are eligible for a full add-on refund. Visit the product add-on page for details.

JR X9503
If you wish to add-on your JR X9503 you will need to purchase this product: JRPX9503UPG

Cool...will check that out...do you know if those products are plug in modules?

You have to send your 9303/9503 in to receive the DSMX upgrade.

RE: JR10x to DSMX

the only module that can be upgraded to DSMX is the one for the 12X MV, as it has an extra set of pins and has a different shaped module.

RE: JR10x to DSMX

Yes, the X9303, and the X9503 are eligable. But not the XP9303.

Hitec makes a JR module that is frequncy hopping.  HH sells them.  I guess HH would rather see us with older radios move to another brand.  I have mine on odred as I am done with DSM2.....can you say junk!

I have never had a problem with DSM2 and no one in my RC Club has either. Most have JR/Spektrum. I welcome DSMX, but I have an XP9303 with a DSM2 Spektrum Module so I would need to buy a new Tx to get DSMX.

+1... I fly with a DM9 module in my 10X and all I can say is DSM2 has never let me down. I have no plans to upgrade to a integrated 2.4/non modular radio at this time, and I love my 10X.
BTW; Ever notice that people that seem to have trouble with their equipment still have trouble when they buy new equipment???

Yeh I have noticed that. 3 years of DSM2 without a single issue for me. Not going to even guess why but some folks just seem to have all the BAD luck.

SO the bottom line is...they can do it... they just haven't yet or may never. at least not for the 10x.

They may have designed it so that it cant be upgraded on purpose, or are choosing not to. you would probably have to work high up at horizon to know...
Anyway, I think that if they were going to have a DSMX module for module radios they would have released it when DSMX came out, not after the fact.

RE: JR10x to DSMX

It's not that simple. Without having a Model Number, the module would need to be re-bound with every flight to insure that it's speaking correctly to the receiver (different receivers have different capabilities). With a DSM2 module that's not necessary. That's also why modules have never supported the original DSM.

RE: JR10x to DSMX

so put a switch on the module (like the old synthesizer switches...) and allow model numbers. Sure, they might not have anything to do with the actual model number in the radio, but it would be one way of getting an ID number into a module. It would be up to the user to decide if they wanted to correspond the switch model number with the programmed model number.

But then, there would be the "but I selected the right model number on the module, but my ailerons were backwards..." so maybe that's not such a good idea after all..

Too bad it can't be sorted out. I would love to have a DSMX module for my trusty 9303.

Probably the preponderance of those now flying 2.4GHz could say the same thing .

The point is that 2.4GHz clearly outperforms 72 MHz, in all its iterations, on quite a number of fronts .
As a matter of fact probably on all fronts.
The two you will feel first are speed and resolution.

If you require no more than that which is available on your existing frequency (other than 2.4GHz)
then stay there.
You won't offend me or may I say, most others either.

However, don't consider 2.4GHz as simply a frequency change as it offers WAY more than just that.
Somewhere in the world there is someone on 26.995MHz saying he doesn't need a change either.

Sound familiar ?

RE: JR10x to DSMX

Totaly agree. The DSMX would be needed if the amount of flyers were rather more than most sites could withstand. I have an 11X (just bought new) and a non modular one at that and have no wish to even consider DSMX. My Spektrum DX8 has been using both on various models and flight wise there is no difference. Its all a fuss about nothing. The idea that those that have trouble will have trouble with any radio, be it old or new. seems to hit the nail on the head. It is like new members to the pits area ask why is it the same guys that dont crash turn up week after week with no probs. Hey - Its the same guys with no radio probs either. We carefully maintain and look after all our equipment.

I just ordered a new JR x9503 (backordered until mid-Aug). Does it come out of the box w/DSMX or will I have to ship it to HH for an upgrade? It comes with a JR R921X receiver which is DSM2/DSMX.

Out of the box with DSMX and with a DSMX Rx.

RE: JR10x to DSMX

Then the online X9503 manual Horizon has on it's website is an old pre-DSMX one because it does not mention DSMX mode. I did see photos from a seller which shows an X9503 with the DSMX logo on the face of the TX as well as a DSMX indication on the LCD screen.

I was most worried that getting a DSMX transmitter would obsolete my stash of DSM2-only receivers.

From the very beginning, DSMX Transmitters, including the Upgraded ones, are backwardly compatible with all DSM2 Rx's. That has not changed. Initial glitches have been identified and corrected.
