I had some time today so I started on my AeroLectric kit. This kit was produced in the late 80s and is a beast. I am building it per the plans but will add a Eflite motor. So far the build is going pretty good and was able to complete most of the fuselage tonight.

Will trim and sand tomorrow.

Looking very nice. I'd sure like to build one of these some day. I bet it will fly very sweet on modern electronics. Very nice work you're doing. Keep on building!

The AeroLectric is ready for Monokote just needs a final sanding. This has been a blast from the past and a fun build. I really like all the wood and everything fit together pretty good for being a die cut kit. So far as shown she weighs 17 ounces.

I started covering tonight and everything is going ok. I finished the wing and if I am off tomorrow I will try to finish the rest. The wing is straight forward with no compound curves or ailerons. I am using Monokote White and will use red, orange and yellow trim, basically 80's colors. I also added 1/8th washout in both wing tips. The Monokote went on without a hitch and is real shiny and pretty smooth. I was worried that the Monokote would have difficulty adhering to the fiberglass on the center section, but there was no issue.

Damn nice build you have there! I do like the lines of the Aerolectric. All that sheet balsa, she looks like a sturdy plane. I recently built a goldberg Eaglet 50 that brought me back to the 80's as well. Very enjoyable to build simple kits that go together nicely and fly well. Nice color choices, are you going to replicate the covering scheme on the box?

Time to go to bed, and get an early start tomorrow. I put strips of monokote in tough to cover areas and began to cover the stab. Sheeted surfaces are the easiest to cover with Monokote. I make sure the Monokote is attached to the entire sheeted area so it does not come loose later on.

I finished the covering last night and will begin on the trim in the next few days. Covering was straight forward and no major issues other than I wished I did the fillet differently. I put the cheat strips down on the rudder fillet and they are not really needed. The good thing about Monokote is that the seams are real hard to see so the white blends in with itself pretty good.

Well it has been a while, but I finally finished the Aerolectric. This was a fun easy build and I really like the 80's color scheme. I was waiting for my Monokote trim and trim solvent to come in so I could finish this bird. The covering and details are all Monokote. The decals are the original decals and have yellowed a little, but still pretty good. I still have to add the electronics and balance her, then off to the flying field. I just got back into RC and all my kits are coming in so I have a lot of building to do. I am building a few trainers first so I can practice my flying abilities. I am working on my RC builds and at the same time working on old Estes rockets and Freeflight balsa planes. Even though I was almost done with this bird, I did not start on another RC plane until this one was done, it is a simple rule for me to live by so I don't end up with a garage full of non finished planes. Just getting back into RC I am a little upset of the lack of kits and I am starting to collect some for future builds. My next RC build is the Herr Mini-Sport, will post pictures soon.

I've been looking for an aerolectric kit or just a copy of the plans, anybody out there have any ideas where I might acquire them. I learned to the fly in the 80's on an Aerostar 40 and still have it. I've considered converting it to electric, but having been built with lite ply and changing CG with the lighter electric system, I'd have to put a ton of lead in the nose to off set the long fuselage. I'd rather start fresh with a new kit or the plans to build a kit. I'm more than willing to pay for either one. Thanks for your time.
