No problem, I won't be doing any work, if any, on the cub until the weekend. I think I got it figured out, but the more visual help, the better!

Very nice indeed! I didn't quite get as far as I'd like this weekend. I got the two aft sections of the fuse sides done. I reinforced a little with some small fillets. Cabin parts will be next. My plywood pieces are pretty rough.

I'm pleased. they add so little weight and make the structure so much stronger.
I use them on all planes.
I'm using a super tiger 3000.

RE: Bud Nosen 1/4 Cub build?
I was hoping I could simply cut a hole in the firewall for the carb, since the DLE 30 is rear carb now. Unfortunately, F4 sits right behind the thrust line. I'll have to do some thinking on this one. The super cub cowl is hopefully longer than the stock cowl to make it easy. The DLE 30 is 6.37" long from hub to end of the standoffs, which is just passed the end of the carb. That would make the hub sit at least an inch past the cowl on the plan, not using the engine mount.

So, I found someone that can track down a DLE 30 side carb. Just have to wait for the Super Cub cowl to arrive to see if I need it or not. I tackled the wing a little more, sanding the leading edge a bit, and adding some webs, and caps. Hobby order showed up tonight, so I can start on the other wing whenever I'm ready.

Second wing coming along slowly... I measured out the wings tonight, and the wingspan should come out to 118.25" (roughly ). I'll probably slow progress on this bird (can it get any slower??) until the cowl arrives, and get some more progress on the Twin Otter before I go back to work...

I'm looking for opinions on what size fuel tank to use for the DLE 30. Apparently 16oz is lots, but I also have an unused smoke tank from my 75cc Extra that is about 25oz. I don't see a problem with an extra large tank, there is plenty of room in the fuselage, and if I don't want to fill it up with all that weight, just fill i half way or 2/3's or so. What do you guys think?

I managed to get a little bit done this weekend, again not as much as I would have liked. I'm waiting on some ply to build a new firewall for the new cowl. The 'optional' door was not optional on this cub...

Looking good Lins, keep up the good work.
I don't get a chance to get on here like I used to (work getting in the way). But, when I do, I look for the high wing build logs; like the cubs, cessnas, decathlons etc.
Most of the planes I have are of this type.
Looking forward to more of your posts.

Well, I got the ply this week, so I fab'd up the new firewall and 'F4' as it is called on the plans. The stock firewall is 5" wide, the new one needs to be about 7", same as the fuselage more or less. I also ordered up the engine today, and I did not go with the DLE 30 afterall.

I managed a little more progress this weekend. The engine is somewhere in town apparently. The post office is having a hard time finding it of course...

I don't understand how the carb gets air when it is behind the engine....doesn't the engine block the airflow? Isn't the air hot from being cowled in?
I'm looking forward to seeing the engine installation when you do it. Please take lots of photos when you do it. I've always been afraid to buy an engine with arear intake because of my ignorance about this arrangement.....Nice build going on there...Keep it going.

Sebo, I only have experience with one other aircraft that has a rear carb, my AW 75cc Extra 260, and it works great! As for hot air, as long as you have the cooling setup properly, the hot air is mostly ducted out through the bottom of the cowl. As for air in general, the Extra 260 airframe is designed for a rear carb, so the carb is actually inside the engine mount box, which is open to the fuselage. This airframe isn't, so the carb will be right close to the firewall. There should be enough cooling air coming into the cowl for combustion as well, but I may also put some small holes in the firewall to help dampen any air pulses that may be going into the cowling. This cowling is massive, and most engines are somewhat streamlined, so I doubt getting enough air for combustion will be a problem.

Here's the assembled pictures of the engine with the '3D' style spinner. I know I'm going to catch some flaming for using it! Hey I might change my mind down the road...
