Hi All, I was wondering if anyone in here could tell me what kit this was. Its a ~77" wingspan. its at least 30 years old... maybe some old timers on here recognize it?

I would like to join the Brotherhood also. I have a 1/4 scale Balsa USA Cub going on the bench this month.

Hey Archie,
Where do I sign up for the Sig Kadet Brotherhood?

The original owner was our former club president, who was a close family friend of my fathers...knowing him I would have guessed either BalsaUSA, SIg, or Goldberg but really didn't know. He was a huge fan of the Cub models, Had J-3's, L-4's and always seemed to have 3-4 flying. Growing up I have a lot of fond memories of being at our club meetings at his house and playing with his Boston Terriers. He passed away probably ten years ago now and since him and my father were close friends, my dad ended up with a number of his kits/planes including this cub. its been sitting idle now for probably close to 20 years, and I decided this week that that is a waste of a perfectly good cub.... so we are going to get a motor and radio in it and clean it up and go flying....

Don't really know too much about the plane... structure seems solid, doesn't seem to be fuel soaked. the rear tail seems a bit flimsy, with the wire bracing actually being somewhat functional, in that you can adjust the tail orientation by sliding it along the wire.I worry a bit about this "adjusting" itself in flight.. we may put some carbon fiber rods in there to strengthen things up beforehand.

Kinda cool to see those old Ace servos in there.....

Sig's clipped wing quarter scale will hold a knife edge all day long with an O.S. 120Surpass II in it...... you won't be able to hang it on the prop but it sure does fly nice.

Nice and scale like

John,

I had Hanger 9 1/4 scale and DLE 30cc engine in it for summer float fly, more than enough power that I need for regular flying never pass haft the throttle stick and I can stay up in the air for 30 minutes. The good part is no oil to clean after fly and cheap too If you don't fly with float 26cc is perfect for the cub.

Please count me in the Cub Brotherhood.  My second plan was a Goldberg Cub built in about 1988.  I've had one in my fleet ever since.   The current one has been around since 1994 and flies well in wheels, floats, and skies.  One of my future projects will be a 1/4 with a twin engine.  Just because that seems to be the proper way to do it.

Would I be #164?

on the 1/4 scale a twin glow but not a twin gas evan the 40cc is a monster in that cub. TOM I like your landing strip looks like nothing to run into but a train.

So I finally maidened my 1/6 SIG cub yesterday. It flew almost perfectly. 1/4 Oz of lead in the nose and now it's perfect. Quite over powered with the saito 40, so I'm thinking of trying to find something a bit more scale like. Man she floats though. It took me probably five landing attempts to get it down. With the added nose weight it's quite a bit better. . Well, I'm glad that's out of the way. Next up is the water maiden. I have some work to do to the floats first though. I'm waiting on the new retractable water rudder and rigging. Another happy cub flier. Steve

I got the floats ready for fiber glass. I went to try it today off of snow skies but never got it off the ground. I made a super noobie mistake today. The other day on the second flight i tried for the first time with a heading lock gyro, i took it out cause i really didnt care for it, and when i plugged the aileron y lead back in i put it upside down. Who woulda thunk that would actualy kill a pair of servos. lesson learned. Dont be in a rush and pay attention. Needless to say i didnt have any extra servos in the car, so i took it back apart, loaded it back up , and drove home. Ill try again tomorow. Steve.

Looks kinda cheap and not so scale looking. I think a better choice would be a Hangar 9

I've plugged them in backward. You should simply have no power and cause no damage. I'm puzzled that you have. Bummer.
