Richard, I used K&S .030" clear styrene sheet for the J-2. For the 1/4 sized Cub a little thicker might be in order. The 030 seems fairly robust and I wouldn't shy away from it if that's all you can get.

Wings are on the BUSA 1/3 Scale J-3. With the DA-50 and three 3100 Mah LiFe batteries under the boot cowl, balance is perfect at 5.75". All up weight less fuel is exactly 30 lbs. She's ready to fly!

So back on page ? I posted a pic of my cub with all the holes in the side. Thats the way I got it. I finally got that layer of holey plywood off the side! My question is...(insert drum roll here) since I want to do an L-4 and the wing is already done as a two piece, I see in the 1/4 CW thread how to attach the formers to the top of the cabin to open up the cabin and create the modified two piece wing. Since I don't have any plans, should I get Cubman's L-4 plans? Is that the best way to go? Also, what is the deal with scale ailerons? how do they differ from what comes with the Sig kit? Do Cubman's L-4 plans come with the scale aileron plans too? (guess thats directed at Cubman but will take an answer from anyone).

Why is the sky blue? Is there really a Santa Claus...ok ok I'm done.

It looks like Lusterkote, painted on top of the Solartex. Some looks sprayed on, some looks brushed on. it's a very uneven color and that's why I'm going to strip it completely, recover it and paint it something other than Cub yellow. I painted the cowl in Testors Yellow paint, and as you can see, it's not a great match. I have some Lusterkote, but as it is a laquer, it doesn't cover well and you can't really paint anything on top of it later. Not sure if I'm going to go with a military paint scheme or something a little different. I recovered a Hangar-9 1/4 Scale Cub in Solartex and blue/oange Rustoleum rattle-can paint...just cause I had the solartex laying around in those colors.

RCJones good questions. Sorry but I don’t know why the sky is blue…..

Now for the good questions or should I say a few questions of my own Hard to tell from the photos but do you know if what you have is a balsa USA or a Sig Cub? How many years have you been building and what is your building ability?
The L-4 plans I have are as scale as I could get them based up on full scale plans. I see you already have the wings built. You could build the fuse from my plans and still be able to do some custom work to get the wings you have to work.
Scale Ailerons. Sig and Balsa USA both like to taper the aileron and hinge them on the top. Very unscale. Mine are similar to the full scale version but still very strong. Feel free to ask questions.

Thanks for the reply. I received the plane all framed up and its a Sig 1/4. I have been building for a long time and have no fears about redoing the wing & fuse that I have. I just want to get the correct plans. Looks like I will be getting your plans as well as the aileron plans. I guess my question about your plans is will I need to also have a copy of the sig plans as I need to do the door also. Tell me what all I need to buy!

Hey guys my friend bought a 100" cub and needs to recover half the wing and was wondering what all kinds of yellow fabric covering there could be? It's kind of heavy looking and course weave. Till we can get with some of our experienced rc'ers was wondering if it's something we can order or locate. Got any ideas of what it could be?

super coverite, 21 century, sig had a line of fabric, cover all, nelsion aircraft had a line of fabric,. your looking at almost a dozen options accoring to how old it is, and if it was a kit or arf some of which is no longer made.

my first guess would be coverite supershrink which I don't think is made anymore.
way back when had used it a lot.
hope this helps, compared to others it was a little heavier but had tremendous shrink capabilities

The BUSA J-3 with wings and horizontal stab/elevators re-primed and painted with Rustoleum alunimum paint. DLE-55 now in the nose and flys very well.

Yes, 1/3 BUSA J-3. My 1/3 BUSA Super Cub is all framed up, now the long job over the winter of sanding and getting things finished, covered and painted next spring. Not much else to do in a Michigan Winter!!

New member of the Cub club here. I just picked up what looks like an old Carl Goldberg cub with a smashed up tail and a beat up cowling. I think it was just a few steps away from the trash pile, but it will fly again.
My question for you guys out there is is a good source for a replacement cowling and where can I get some decent pictures of the suspension and wing struts so I can piece something together, as this one didn't come with those bits? I should be able to get some pics up this evening.
